Job Purpose
As a Senior Legal Counsel, you will provide strategic legal advice and commercial guidance to the business across a broad range of legal matters. You will be responsible for negotiating complex commercial contracts, managing legal risks and supporting key business initiatives while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Working closely with senior stakeholders, you will help define and implement legal strategies that protect the organization’s interests, enable business growth and drive best-in-class legal processes. You will act as a trusted business partner, providing practical, commercially focused legal solutions in a dynamic international environment.
Key Tasks
- Provide strategic legal advice to business leaders on legal and commercial matters within your area of responsibility.
- Act as the primary legal partner for one or more business units, delivering comprehensive legal support across a wide range of issues.
- Draft, review, negotiate and approve a variety of commercial contracts and legal documentation, including customer, supplier, procurement, employment and operational agreements.
- Advise the business on legal developments, regulatory changes and emerging legal trends that may impact operations.
- Develop and implement legal risk mitigation strategies while supporting business objectives.
- Review legal analyses and provide recommendations to senior management on complex legal matters and regulatory developments.
- Protect the organization’s legal interests by supporting contract negotiations and ensuring appropriate legal safety is in place.
- Manage litigation, disputes and claims, working closely with external legal counsel where required.
- Support the management of external legal spending and contribute to legal budget planning.
- Drive continuous improvement of legal processes and promote the effective use of legal technology to enhance legal service delivery.
Your Profile
- Master’s degree in Law obtained in Hungary
- Qualified lawyer with the right to practice law in Hungary and membership of the Hungarian Bar.
- 5–7 years of post-qualification legal experience gained within a commercial law firm and/or an in-house legal department.
- Professional fluency in Hungarian and excellent command of English, both written and verbal.
- Strong commercial mindset with the ability to balance legal risk and business objectives.
- Proven experience in drafting, negotiating and managing complex commercial agreements.
- Excellent understanding of legal risk management and commercial law.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and build strong business relationships.
- Willingness to work in an office-based environment in Budapest.
- Interest in legal technology and its application to delivering efficient, high-quality legal services.
- Solid understanding of business operations and the ability to apply legal expertise in a commercial environment.
