FUNCTION\:

The Senior Manager- Enterprise Application Engineering leads Bealls’ enterprise application development organization. The role advances a modern, cloud-native architecture on Microsoft Azure and an AI-augmented software development lifecycle, while owning end-to-end delivery\: capacity, execution, quality, support, and partner management across all business areas. It is equally accountable for building new capabilities and for keeping the established application portfolio stable, secure, and progressively modernized.

INTERACTION\:

Partners closely with Merchandising, Planning & Allocation, Store Operations, Logistics, Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, Ecommerce, Data Engineering, Information Technology leadership, and external delivery partners

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES [ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS]

Team Leadership & People Development

  • Lead, coach, and grow a team of engineers and engineering managers across the application development organization

  • Own hiring, performance management, and career development for the team

  • Set technical direction and foster a collaborative, standards-driven engineering culture

Delivery Management

Capacity Management — own capacity planning and resource allocation across concurrent product lines, balancing new development against the maintenance backlog

Sprint & Delivery Execution — run agile delivery — sprint planning, execution, and release management — to deliver predictably across all business areas

Support SLAs & Escalation — own production support, service-level commitments, and incident escalation for the application portfolio

Quality & Standards — set and enforce standards for code quality, testing, security, branch governance, and observability

Vendor Management — direct external delivery partners on scope, quality, throughput, and skills mix

Application Engineering & Modernization

  • Deliver cloud-native applications on Microsoft Azure across web, mobile (.NET MAUI) and handheld/PDA surfaces

  • Drive the integration architecture toward Azure-based integrations and a general publish/subscribe pattern, retiring legacy ETL and file-transfer tooling, with transformation localized at the endpoints

  • Keep the established .NET and C# application portfolio stable, secure, and supported while looking for opportunities to modernize

  • Make sound architecture decisions in partnership with leadership and domain teams

AI-Enabled Delivery

  • Guide delivery of AI applications — conversational assistants, retrieval-augmented experiences, and agentic workflows — with appropriate grounding, access control, and human-in-the-loop review

  • Apply AI across the software development lifecycle to relieve capacity and delivery-timeline constraints, championing effective, measured use of AI development tools

Other

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • 8+ years in software engineering, including 3+ years leading engineers or engineering managers

  • Deep, hands-on-credible experience in the .NET / C# ecosystem across both modern .NET and older framework applications

  • Demonstrated delivery on Microsoft Azure — compute, integration, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD

  • Demonstrated ability to lead delivery across multiple concurrent teams or product lines, including capacity planning, sprint execution, quality, and production support

  • Experience designing or delivering integration / messaging architectures (pub/sub, event-driven, or service-bus) and migrating off legacy ETL tooling

  • Track record modernizing or maintaining an established application portfolio while shipping new capabilities in parallel

  • Experience managing external delivery partners alongside full-time staff

  • Strong architecture and technical judgment; able to communicate decisions to both engineers and executives

Preferred

  • Delivery experience with AI/LLM applications — retrieval-augmented generation, orchestration frameworks, agentic patterns, and AI-in-the-SDLC practices

  • Retail, off-price, or merchandising / supply-chain domain exposure

  • Familiarity with .NET MAUI or mobile / PDA / handheld delivery for store and warehouse environments

  • Exposure to payment-device / PIN PAD applications and the associated security / PCI considerations
