Senior Principal, Compliance & Risk (Non-Attorney)
Position Summary:
The Senior Principal, Compliance & Risk is a senior-level, non-attorney role reporting to and supporting the organization's In-House Counsel. This position is responsible for leading enterprise-wide legal compliance programs, managing regulatory interactions, and mitigating organizational risk.
While the position collaborates with Human Resources as needed, it operates within the legal function. The role's primary focus is ensuring compliance with applicable laws, advising leadership on legal risk, and supporting the legal strategy of the organization.
Job Responsibilities:
Legal Compliance & Policy Governance
Review company policies and compliance programs to ensure alignment with applicable laws and regulatory requirements. Establish frameworks for legal compliance across the organization, ensuring consistency and defensibility in policy application. Advise leadership on legal implications of organizational practices and policy decisions.
Risk Assessment & Legal Advisory
Support internal compliance audits in partnership with in-house counsel to identify legal and regulatory risks. Recommend risk mitigation strategies and corrective action plans. Monitor regulatory and legislative changes, providing proactive guidance to leadership on required adjustments.
Regulatory Affairs & Agency Engagement
Serve as the primary organizational liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., Department of Labor, EEOC). Lead response strategy for audits, investigations, and inquiries. Coordinate documentation, write responses and take follow-up actions to ensure timely and accurate submissions. Ensure organizational readiness for regulatory reviews and maintain credible, professional agency relationships.
Legal Compliance Training & Ethical Standards
In collaboration with Learning and Development design and lead legal compliance training initiatives for leaders and employees. Promote and reinforce a culture of integrity, accountability, and adherence to legal standards. In collaboration with the appropriate BCI SME (HR, Risk management), provide guidance to leadership on legal compliance expectations and risk-aware decision-making.
Executive Reporting & Strategic Insight
Develop and track legal metrics, dashboards, and reporting frameworks. Prepare executive-level reports with actionable recommendations to support compliant, risk-informed decision-making. Support in - House counsel to serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on legal risk exposure
Labor Relations & Legal Support
Partner with in-house counsel and HR leadership on labor relations strategy strictly from a legal compliance perspective. Represent or support the organization in labor arbitrations and related proceedings.
Cross-Functional Positioning
Operates within the legal function, reporting to In-House Counsel. Partners with HR and Risk Management to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risk when required.
