Senior Project Manager – Software Release

ROLE

We are looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager / Project Leader with a strong background in software development, software release management, software integration, and large-scale delivery environments.

The role is ideal for a senior professional who can take ownership of complex software deliveries, coordinate cross-functional stakeholders, drive continuous improvement, and coach other project and release leaders.

As a Senior Project Manager - Software Release, you will be part of a Release Leader team responsible for coordinating and delivering software releases across vehicle programs.

You will take ownership of your assigned releases while also contributing to the development of the Release Leader capability, governance, processes, and ways of working.

The role combines project leadership, software release management, stakeholder management, transformation, coaching, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate software releases through the complete release lifecycle.
  • Take ownership of release planning, prioritization, readiness, and delivery.
  • Establish plans, milestones, priorities, and follow-up activities.
  • Drive issue resolution and ensure risks, dependencies, and blockers are actively managed.
  • Ensure successful and predictable software deliveries.
  • Coordinate release activities across multiple teams and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with Engineering and cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate dependencies between software, engineering, and other technical functions.
  • Communicate project and release status, risks, issues, and decisions.
  • Drive alignment and maintain focus on delivery objectives.
  • Influence stakeholders and drive decisions without formal authority.
  • Act as a trusted senior point of contact for software release activities.
  • Act as a senior Release Leader and role model within the team.
  • Coach and mentor other Release Leaders and project leaders.
  • Share knowledge, best practices, lessons learned, and successful approaches.
  • Support the development of team capabilities and leadership practices.
  • Contribute to building a strong, collaborative, and high-performing team culture.
  • Drive improvements to software release processes and ways of working.
  • Improve release governance, planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Lead selected improvement and transformation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to increase delivery quality, efficiency, and predictability.
  • Support standardization and sustainable ways of working.
  • Contribute to preparing the Release Leader organization for future challenges.
  • Identify and proactively manage project and release risks.
  • Drive resolution of complex technical and organizational issues.
  • Manage dependencies, priorities, and potential delivery impacts.
  • Escalate critical issues and ensure appropriate actions are taken.
  • Maintain focus on quality, timelines, and business objectives.

Required Qualifications

  • MSc in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive experience working in large-scale software development and delivery organizations.
  • Proven experience leading complex projects, programs, transformations, or organizational change initiatives.

  • Fluent in English.
  • Valid Swedish driving licence.
