About the role: Protolabs is on the lookout for a Senior Python Developer to become a vital part of its Manufacturing Partner Marketplace team. This position is centered around the development of essential systems that oversee the entire order lifecycle, which includes everything from matching orders with manufacturers to guaranteeing timely deliveries. What you'll do
- Design and implement features from inception to completion, working closely with various stakeholders to address intricate marketplace challenges.
- Develop APIs and backend systems that facilitate the order process, covering everything from supplier selection to final delivery.
- Lead architectural decisions and strengthen the technical infrastructure of the platform.
- Provide mentorship to fellow engineers, raising the engineering standards within the team.
- Integrate with event-driven systems and enhance the platform's scalability as order volumes rise.
- Elevate product quality through rigorous testing, observability practices, and adherence to best practices.
- Collaborate with the Backend guild to set standards and improve backend systems across the board.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes.
- Analyze system performance and identify areas for optimization to ensure high availability and reliability.
- Engage in cross-functional teamwork with product managers and designers to refine product requirements and specifications.
- Stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to ensure the platform remains competitive and innovative.
Requirements
- A minimum of 7 years of experience in developing web applications and backend services.
- Proficient in Python, with a strong background in designing, developing, testing, and monitoring production systems.
- Experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes, along with CI/CD practices.
- Demonstrated capability to lead technical projects and mentor junior engineers effectively.
- Experience working within an agile team environment, collaborating closely with product managers and designers.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to delivering high-quality software.
Nice to have
- Previous experience with marketplace platforms or operational systems is a plus.
- A solid understanding of event-driven architectures and their implementation.
- Familiarity with frontend technologies, particularly Angular, is advantageous.
- Experience with cloud services and infrastructure management.

- Proficient in Python 3.11+
- Experience with FastAPI and Flask frameworks
