Job Description - Senior QA Automation Engineer - RDK-B / CPE Networking
We are looking for a Senior QA / Automation Engineer with strong experience in broadband, cable modem, gateway, and CPE networking domains. The role involves designing and executing manual and automated testing, developing Python-based automation solutions, validating network and device functionality, and ensuring end-to-end product quality. The candidate will also guide a small QA team and actively engage with customers and stakeholders in defect triage, technical discussions, and release reviews.
Responsibilities :
- Design, develop, and execute manual and automated test cases for cable modems, gateways, and broadband systems.
- Develop and maintain Python-based automation scripts for functional, regression, and network validation testing.
- Test gateway features and networking protocols, including LAN/WAN, IPv4/IPv6, DHCP, DNS, NAT, routing, and Wi-Fi performance.
- Perform network, performance, and stability testing using tools such as Iperf, traffic generators, and packet analysers.
- Debug and troubleshoot issues using Wireshark, tcpdump, SNMP, device logs, and CLI tools.
- Validate firmware upgrades, new feature releases, and defect fixes, ensuring comprehensive regression coverage across builds.
- Lead and mentor a small QA team of 3 - 4 engineers and review test cases and execution results.
- Participate in customer calls, defect triage meetings, and release discussions, communicating quality status and technical findings.
- Support hypercare and production issues through issue reproduction, root cause analysis, and fix validation.
Requirements :
- Approximately 8 years of experience in QA, test engineering, or automation testing.
- Strong experience in broadband, cable modem, gateway, or CPE device testing.
- Hands-on Python programming experience for test automation, scripting, and test utilities.
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and routing.
- Experience in testing gateway functionalities and network protocols such as DHCP, DNS, NAT, IPv4, and IPv6.
- Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark, tcpdump, SNMP, and CLI utilities.
- Experience working directly with customers and handling technical discussions, defect triage, and release reviews.
- Experience leading or mentoring a small QA team.
- Exposure to DOCSIS 3.0/3.1 fundamentals and device management protocols such as TR-069, TR-181, TR-369, or SNMP is preferred.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and CI/CD pipelines for test automation is an advantage.
