Role Overview
The Senior Safety Manager plans, develops, coordinates, and manages the environmental, health, and safety protection programs and practices for the assigned division, which may span multiple states. The role owns the division's safety audits, inspections, training programs, policies, and procedures, and ensures that every field employee and subcontractor is working to regulatory, company, and owner requirements with consistency and quality at all locations.
Beyond compliance, this is a leadership seat. The Senior Safety Manager establishes and maintains a safety-driven culture throughout the division, provides strategic and proactive direction to reduce risk and liability, briefs company management on safety performance, leads accident investigations, and builds the safety team through recruiting, hiring, coaching, and performance management of direct reports.
Core Responsibilities
- Manage and conduct safety audits and inspections and recommend correction of hazardous situations for compliance with regulatory, company, and owner requirements across the entire division, which may span multiple states
- Develop, implement, and maintain employee safety training programs and records
- Develop, update, and manage workplace safety programs, procedures, and policies
- Develop reports and presentations for safety briefings with company management
- Provide strategic and proactive direction on initiatives that improve environmental, health, and safety performance by minimizing risks and liabilities
- Implement all aspects of the company safety manual and ensure that all field employees and subcontractors are complying
- Ensure consistency, quality, and compliance at all locations
- Oversee and direct programs to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and internal policies
- Provide guidance for departmental processes and activities, including compliance with safety regulations and the investigation of accidents
- Provide leadership and recommendations on the design, implementation, and administration of all safety initiatives, policies, procedures, and processes
- Provide performance coaching and feedback for direct reports and participate in the annual performance process
- Manage the recruitment and hiring process for safety roles
Required Background
- Bachelor's degree in Safety, Health, Environmental Applied Sciences, or a related discipline
- Minimum 8 years of experience in EH&S, including people management experience
- Certifications in CPR and First Aid
- OSHA 10-hour, OSHA 30-hour, and OSHA 40-hour training preferred
- OSHA 500, CHST, or ASP certification preferred
