Senior Sales Engineer - Chef

This role sits at the intersection of enterprise technology, engineering, and consultative sales, helping customers understand how complex solutions can address their business and technical needs.
You will serve as a senior technical partner to the sales organization, guiding prospects through evaluation and helping turn technical opportunities into successful commercial relationships.
The position combines technical expertise with customer engagement, compelling demonstrations, solution positioning, and strategic account support.
You will work with executive, business, and technical stakeholders to communicate value clearly and establish trusted-advisor relationships.
Your expertise will span cloud platforms, DevOps practices, enterprise infrastructure, and configuration management, with a strong focus on Chef.
You will also collaborate closely with product teams to communicate customer requirements and help shape solutions that address real-world needs.

Accountabilities
- Serve as the primary technical resource for the field sales organization, actively managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process.
- Partner with sales teams to qualify opportunities, identify customer needs, determine appropriate sales strategies, and remove technical obstacles throughout the buying journey.
- Deliver engaging and technically accurate product demonstrations that clearly communicate how solutions can create measurable value for customers and prospects.
- Provide in-depth technical presentations and solution discussions both virtually and in person, adapting the approach to executive, business, and technical audiences.
- Represent solutions across configuration management, load balancing, infrastructure monitoring, and network monitoring at customer meetings, conferences, seminars, meetups, and other field events.
- Develop trusted-advisor relationships with customers and prospects by demonstrating a strong commitment to their technical and business success.
- Translate customer requirements into clear and actionable feedback for Product Management and other internal teams.
- Stay current with developments in enterprise computing, infrastructure, cloud platforms, and related technologies to provide relevant technical guidance.
- Prepare professional written responses to emails, RFPs, technical documentation requests, and other customer-facing materials.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop creative and adaptive approaches that overcome sales challenges and advance opportunities.
- Travel throughout the assigned sales territory as required, including occasional travel with limited advance notice.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior technical role such as Sales Engineering, Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Hands-on experience and strong knowledge of Chef is required.
- Demonstrated experience with one or more major cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, or VMware.
- Practical understanding of DevOps principles, methodologies, and practices.
- Strong customer-facing experience with a demonstrated commitment to customer success.
- Exceptional verbal communication and presentation skills, including the ability to deliver engaging demonstrations and inspire confidence with technical and executive audiences.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and professional emails, RFP responses, reports, and technical materials.
- Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and adaptability skills, with the ability to navigate complex sales situations effectively.
- Experience with Puppet and Ansible is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with LoadMaster, WhatsUp Gold, and Flowmon is a significant advantage.
- Basic understanding of networking concepts and IP addressing is beneficial.
- Familiarity with Internet protocols such as TCP, UDP, HTTP, and FTP is advantageous.
- Experience creating network topology diagrams using tools such as Microsoft Visio or Draw.io is a plus.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, rapidly evolving technical environment with a growing customer base.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required by customer and business needs.
- Base salary range of $151,000–$177,000, depending on skills, education, experience, and other job-related factors.
- Eligibility for a commission plan with up to $66,000 at goal.
