Senior Events Manager
Job Purpose
The Senior Events Manager is responsible for managing a team of Sales Executives and ultimately being responsible for the booking, planning, coordination and successful execution of meetings, conferences, corporate events, social functions and group activities. The role is accountable for converting event and group enquiries into confirmed business whilst ensuring exceptional event execution and client satisfaction while driving revenue growth and exceptional guest satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Event Planning & Delivery
- Manage the complete event lifecycle from enquiry through to execution and post-event review.
- Lead pre-event, operational and post-event meetings with clients and internal stakeholders.
- Develop detailed event programmes and function sheets.
- Coordinate all event requirements with Operations, Food & Beverage, Rooms Division and external suppliers - operational support may sometimes be required.
- Oversee room allocations, rooming lists, meeting space utilization and event logistics.
- Ensure all events are delivered in line with brand standards and client expectations.
Client Relationship Management
- Act as the primary point of contact for event organisers from enquiry stage onwards.
- Build strong relationships with key corporate, agency and private clients.
- Conduct site inspections and planning visits.
- Address client feedback, concerns and operational challenges proactively.
- Complete post-event follow-up and review meetings to identify future business opportunities.
Sales
- Manage all incoming enquiries for meetings, conferences, private dining, group accommodation, celebrations, and social events.
- Respond to enquiries within agreed timeframes, preparing tailored proposals and quotations to maximize conversion.
- Proactively identify opportunities to convert bedrooms, meeting space, catering and ancillary revenue.
- Maintain an accurate sales pipeline and enquiry management process within the hotel's sales system.
- Follow up all proposals and provisional bookings to maximise conversion performance.
- Generate repeat business through proactive account management and post-event follow-up.
- Work closely with Marketing to promote seasonal offers, private dining opportunities, corporate events and key revenue-generating periods.
- Produce weekly and monthly sales activity reports, including enquiries received, conversion rates, revenue pace and business opportunities.
Revenue & Commercial Performance
- Manage client budgets and event profitability.
- Identify opportunities to upsell accommodation, catering, AV, meeting packages and ancillary services.
- Forecast event revenues and associated room night production.
- Review contracts, billing and payment schedules to ensure financial accuracy.
- Support the achievement of departmental revenue targets and KPIs.
Leadership & Operational Excellence
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Revenue Management, Food & Beverage and Operations teams.
- Support the Director of Sales & Marketing during periods of absence.
- Mentor and develop the Events Executives and support them in hitting their targets.
- Drive process improvements that enhance efficiency and client satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures and health & safety standards.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
- Minimum 3-5 years' experience in event management, conference & banqueting, hospitality sales.
- Proven experience managing corporate events and large-scale functions.
- Strong commercial awareness and management skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and
Desirable
- Experience using hotel sales and catering systems, particularly Opera PMS and Sales & Catering.
- Knowledge of Marriott operating standards and procedures.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience.
