Senior SAS Systems Administrator
Summary
12-month contract (extendable to 24) via Paxus administering enterprise SAS analytics infrastructure — SAS VEA and SAS Viya — for a large Australian government client. Day-to-day covers patching, incident/problem resolution, capacity and availability management, automation and documentation. Hybrid, capital-city based; requires Australian citizenship and NV1 clearance.
Salary: Weekly pay + Hybrid
- Engagement: Contract (initial 12 months, with extensions up to a maximum of 24 months)
- Location: ACT / QLD / VIC / SA / TAS (capital city locations)

About the role
We are seeking an experienced SAS System Administrator (EL1 equivalent) to support SAS infrastructure platforms underpinning enterprise-scale data analytics functions in a large government environment.
You'll provide high-level operational support, technical administration and advisory services across key SAS products, with a strong focus on reliability, performance, compliance and continuous improvement.
Key responsibilities
- Provide ongoing support and technical administration for SAS products including SAS VEA and SAS Viya.
- Diagnose and resolve system issues and contribute to incident resolution.
- Plan, test and execute patching activities to meet security and regulatory compliance requirements.
- Deliver system enhancements and improvements across the SAS infrastructure environment.
- Prepare, review and maintain technical documentation and standard operating procedures.
- Provide specialist technical advice, including strategic advice where required.
- Act as a subject matter expert; share knowledge and mentor less experienced team members.
Skills & experience (aligned to SFIA)
To be successful, you will demonstrate experience across the following:
- Availability management (Level 5) - including breach investigations and disaster recovery planning/testing.
- Capacity management (Level 4) - monitoring, modelling, and demand control techniques.
- IT infrastructure (Level 4) - infrastructure maintenance, performance monitoring, scripting/automation, and operational procedures.
- Problem management (Level 4) - root cause investigation, remedies and preventative actions.
- Programming / software development (Level 3) - scripting, testing, documentation, refactoring and peer reviews.
- Systems design (Level 5) - design of large/complex systems and impact analysis of major options/trade-offs.
- Systems installation & removal (Level 5) - leading installation/decommissioning activities and quality planning.
Qualifications: Degree in software engineering, computer science, or similar is highly desirable.
Eligibility / clearance
- Must be an Australian Citizen and hold an NV1 clearance prior to commencement.
