Senior Security Systems Engineer

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Senior Security Systems Engineer to be embedded on ByteDance’s Security Technology team.

This role is responsible for the engineering, administration, maintenance, and optimization of the server infrastructure and architecture supporting enterprise security systems. The ideal candidate will have strong experience supporting Lenel Access Control and Avigilon CCTV environments, with a focus on server administration, system upgrades, patching, system architecture, and database management. This role requires a highly technical systems engineer who can troubleshoot complex infrastructure and application issues, perform system health assessments, support enterprise upgrades, and partner with internal technology teams and vendors to maintain secure, reliable, and scalable security systems.

This is a full-time, hybrid position offering competitive benefits. Employees are required to work onsite four days per week at ByteDance’s San Jose office, with the flexibility to work remotely one day per week.

Essential Job Functions

• Administer, maintain, and optimize the server infrastructure supporting enterprise physical security systems, with a strong focus on Lenel Access Control and Avigilon CCTV platforms.

• Manage server upgrades, operating system updates, security patches, application updates, backups, and preventative maintenance in accordance with enterprise and vendor standards.

• Monitor system and server health, performance, availability, and capacity, proactively identifying and resolving issues impacting security system operations.

• Troubleshoot complex server, application, database, and system integration issues; perform root cause analysis and implement effective technical solutions.

• Support the design, documentation, and ongoing optimization of security system architecture across servers, applications, databases, networks, and integrated security platforms.

• Maintain SQL databases supporting security applications, including database health, performance, backups, troubleshooting, and data integrity.

• Partner with internal R&D, IT, network, security technology teams, and external vendors to support integrations, resolve technical issues, and implement system enhancements.

• Conduct system health checks, technical assessments, and testing to validate system stability, performance, and functionality before and after upgrades or major changes.

• Serve as a technical point of contact for security technology vendors and support escalations, upgrades, system improvements, and issue resolution.

• Maintain accurate technical documentation, system architecture diagrams, configuration records, maintenance procedures, and operational standards.

Required Skills and Experience

• 7+ years of experience engineering, administering, and supporting enterprise physical security systems, applications, and supporting infrastructure.

• Strong hands-on experience with Lenel OnGuard and Avigilon CCTV systems, including administration, troubleshooting, upgrades, and system maintenance.

• Strong experience administering enterprise servers, including operating system updates, security patches, backups, configuration, and performance monitoring.

• Experience with SQL databases, including database administration, troubleshooting, backups, queries, and performance management.

• Strong understanding of enterprise system architecture, networking, infrastructure, and security concepts, including LAN/WAN, IP addressing, DNS/DHCP, firewalls, Active Directory/domains, and server environments.

• Demonstrated experience designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting large-scale, distributed security systems and integrated technology environments.

• Experience managing enterprise security system upgrades, migrations, integrations, testing, and technical deployments with minimal supervision.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal technology teams and external vendors.

• Lenel OnGuard Fundamentals and Advanced Certifications (strongly preferred).
