Senior Software Automation Engineer

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Software Test Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. The ideal candidate is a senior testing professional who thrives in dynamic environments, provides leadership across Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid methodologies, and ensures testing excellence through proactive guidance and cross-team collaboration.

This position supports the IRS Enterprise System Testing (EST) program, which provides comprehensive testing and quality assurance services to ensure mission critical IRS applications are secure, reliable, and ready for deployment.

This position will be in Lanham, Maryland.

Day to Day Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct functional and/or integration testing of multiple programs in an IBM mainframe, client/server or cloud environment.
  • Proactively identify use cases for test automation within supported projects.
  • Use test automation tools to execute test scripts that validate functional, technical, and performance requirements.
  • Use Government or Contractor-developed documentation to construct test cases with predetermined results and test data to verify program functionality and/or interfaces through assigned systems.
  • Review output to determine whether the test results fulfill the established requirements, and if necessary, notify the responsible programmers, both verbally and in writing, of errors, omissions, and inconsistencies in the programs and/or documentation.
  • Coordinate test activities with project stakeholders.
  • Coordinate work assignments to ensure timely and accurate completion of testing.
  • Train other contractors or government personnel in use of automated testing tools.
  • Lead and oversee testing activities with initiative and accountability, applying deep expertise while guiding others and rapidly adapting to new systems and domains.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree and 8 years of experience or a Masters degree and 6 years of experience or an Associates degree and 10 years of experience or a High School diploma/equivalent and 12 years of experience
  • Must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an MBI clearance.
  • Hands on experience with the Databricks platform, including data validation and testing within Databricks environments.
  • Strong understanding of Medallion Architecture, including Bronze, Silver, and Gold data layers.
  • Hands on experience with PySpark and PySpark DataFrames, including testing and validating data transformations and processing.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing automated software tests using industry standard test automation frameworks and tools.
  • Demonstrated expertise in software testing, including advanced problem solving, test planning, test execution, defect identification, and resolution.
  • Experience developing and supporting overall test plans and release specific test plans.
  • Experience preparing comprehensive reports on testing progress, defects, issues, risks, and recommended remedial actions.
  • Hands on experience with Jira and Xray, or comparable test management and defect tracking tools.
  • Experience using Git or GitHub for version control and collaborative software development.
  • Experience with one or more test automation tools or frameworks such as Selenium, UiPath, QTP, HP UFT, or comparable technologies.
  • Experience working in an Agile software development environment and collaborating with developers, data engineers, business analysts, project managers, and other QA professionals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Current active IRS MBI Clearance strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with the federal government, preferably within an IRS environment.
  • Knowledge of current IRS tax administration software applications.
  • Experience with IBM Mainframe or Unisys Mainframe applications and operations.
  • Experience automating testing for mainframe and web based applications.
  • Knowledge of various classes of test automation tools, including low code and codeless automated testing tools.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing customized test automation frameworks based on project requirements.
  • Experience providing technical guidance, mentoring, or leadership to other Test Engineers.
  • Experience providing strategic guidance on testing practices across Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery models.
  • Hands on experience with technologies such as Java, Service Oriented Architecture, Web Services, SQL, and XML.
  • Experience with additional testing and automation tools such as JMeter, JUnit, Parasoft LoadTest, SOAPUI, INFOConnect, Pegasus, or UiPath.
  • Experience with Selenium automated testing.
  • Experience with performance, load, or stress testing methodologies and tools.
  • Experience with software accessibility testing and accessibility tools such as Freedom Scientific JAWS, ZoomText, or Dragon NaturallySpeaking.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and apply emerging testing technologies, automation frameworks, and industry best practices.

Target Salary Range

$80,000 - $128,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
