Senior Software Developer - Front End

Position Summary

The Senior Software Developer – Front End will design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain accessible, responsive, and user-friendly frontend applications for an enterprise digital platform.

The successful candidate will translate approved technical specifications, wireframes, prototypes, user stories, and acceptance criteria into reusable, maintainable, and high-quality user interface components. The role involves integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs, identity and access management services, workflows, notifications, document services, and other enterprise platform components.

Working closely with UX designers, business analysts, solution architects, backend developers, QA specialists, accessibility experts, security teams, and DevOps engineers, the developer will ensure compliance with enterprise development standards, secure coding practices, accessibility requirements, performance expectations, and automated testing standards.

The role also includes troubleshooting complex technical issues, supporting application releases, and providing post-implementation support to ensure reliable digital services for Ontario businesses.

Key Responsibilities

Frontend Development

• Design, develop, test, debug, document, and maintain responsive frontend applications.
  
• Build reusable, component-based user interfaces using modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks.
  
• Translate technical specifications, wireframes, prototypes, user stories, and acceptance criteria into functional applications.
  
• Apply object-oriented programming principles, design patterns, refactoring practices, and clean coding standards.
  
• Ensure consistent user experiences across platform features and integrated services.
  

API Integration and Security

• Integrate frontend components with RESTful APIs, web services, middleware, and backend systems.
  
• Implement integrations with identity and access management services, security gateways, workflows, notifications, and document services.
  
• Apply authentication and security protocols, including OAuth 2.0, JSON Web Tokens (JWT), and SSL certificates.
  
• Follow secure coding practices and enterprise information-management standards.
  

Testing and Quality Assurance

• Develop and execute unit, component, integration, accessibility, and end-to-end tests.
  
• Identify and resolve functional defects, browser compatibility issues, performance bottlenecks, and integration failures.
  
• Participate in code reviews, design walkthroughs, testing activities, and quality assurance processes.
  
• Maintain code quality, application stability, and technical documentation.
  

Accessibility and Performance

• Develop accessible user interfaces in accordance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) and applicable Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
  
• Optimize frontend performance, responsiveness, usability, and cross-browser compatibility.
  
• Apply approved enterprise design-system standards and accessibility best practices.
  

DevOps and Application Deployment

• Use Azure DevOps or comparable tools for source control, work management, continuous integration, and deployment.
  
• Review and maintain application configuration, build scripts, and installation scripts.
  
• Support application deployment, release planning, implementation, migration, and production readiness.
  
• Provide post-implementation support and resolve production issues.
  

Collaboration and Documentation

• Collaborate with business analysts, UX designers, architects, backend developers, testers, DevOps engineers, and other technical stakeholders.
  
• Participate in Agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, estimation, sprint planning, and release planning.
  
• Gather and document technical requirements from business stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
  
• Prepare technical specifications, system documentation, deployment guides, and support documentation.
  
• Manage changing priorities and deliver high-quality work within agreed timelines.
  
  
  

Required Experience and Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing and developing large-scale, multi-client, Internet-ready web applications.
  
• Strong hands-on experience with modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks and responsive, component-based development.
  
• Experience translating technical specifications and detailed designs into working, tested, maintainable applications.
  
• Experience with structured and Agile software development methodologies.
  
• Experience using Azure DevOps or comparable tools for source control, work management, and CI/CD.
  
• Experience developing and executing automated tests and maintaining application documentation.
  
• Experience integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs, security gateways, middleware, and backend services.
  
• Experience with OAuth 2.0, JWT, SSL certificates, and communications protocols.

• Full-time commitment at 100% allocation.
