Senior Software Engineer - AI Enablement
Summary
Senior software engineer building production AI systems (agents, RAG, MCP, tool calling) across a major Sydney enterprise. Team's core language is Python, but strong backend engineers from Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Go or C# are welcome; hybrid role, 3 days per week in the office.
We’re looking for strong software engineers with hands-on experience building production AI systems.
This is a software engineering role first. Your background could be in Python, Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Go, C# or another modern backend stack.
The important thing is strong engineering fundamentals and genuine experience taking AI-enabled systems into production.
The team’s core language is Python, so you will need to be comfortable picking it up and working in it as part of the role.
What you could be building
- Customer-facing AI experiences that retrieve trusted information and interact with internal services
- Internal employee agents that gather information, summarise context and recommend next actions
- Agentic workflows that call enterprise APIs, tools and data sources
- RAG and knowledge platforms grounded in approved internal information
- Reusable engineering patterns around agents, MCP, evaluation, guardrails and observability
- AI-assisted software delivery and engineering productivity
- Build and support production AI systems and backend services
- Design integrations with enterprise APIs, systems and data
- Work across agents, RAG, MCP, tool calling and multi-step workflows
- Implement evaluation, guardrails and human-in-the-loop patterns
- Design for reliability, scalability, resilience and fault tolerance
- Own solutions through testing, CI/CD, deployment, monitoring and production support
- Contribute to reusable engineering patterns that can be adopted across multiple teams
- Strong backend or software engineering experience
- Hands-on experience building production AI or LLM-enabled systems
- Strong system design and production ownership
- Experience integrating APIs, services and enterprise data
- Experience with agents, RAG, MCP, tool calling or similar patterns
- Strong understanding of reliability, testing, monitoring and production support
- Experience working in cloud environments
- Willingness and ability to work in Python as part of the role
We are open to strong engineers from languages such as Node.js/TypeScript, Java, Go, C# and similar backend stacks, provided the software engineering and production AI experience is strong.
What matters most
We’re less interested in how many frameworks you can list and more interested in:
- What problem did you solve?
- What did you personally build?
- Why did you design it that way?
- What could fail?
- How did you make it reliable?
- How did it perform in production?
Location: Sydney
Hybrid: 3 days per week in the office
Salary: $160k–$240k package + bonus (flexible for the right person).
