This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer - Android based in India.
This role offers the opportunity to build next-generation Android-based infotainment experiences for connected vehicles.
You will work across Android Auto and Android Automotive OS (AAOS), developing system- and application-level features.
The position spans connectivity, media, navigation, projection, and core automotive platform integrations.
You’ll work with technologies including Kotlin, Java, C++, AOSP, Android IPC, Binder, and Vehicle HAL.
The role combines hands-on development with sophisticated debugging, performance analysis, and platform troubleshooting.
You’ll collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams in a fast-paced automotive environment and help shape high-quality software solutions.
It also provides opportunities to mentor engineers, influence technical direction, and work with cutting-edge connected-car technologies.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, integrate, and maintain Android Auto and Android Automotive OS (AAOS) features for automotive infotainment platforms.
- Build system-level and application-level functionality supporting connectivity, media, navigation, projection, and in-vehicle experiences.
- Develop software using Kotlin, Java, and C/C++, applying strong object-oriented design, software engineering principles, and system-level programming practices.
- Work with Android core components such as Activities, Services, Broadcast Receivers, and Content Providers within AOSP/AAOS environments.
- Implement and troubleshoot Android IPC mechanisms, including AIDL, Binder, Binder transactions, and inter-process communication for system services.
- Work with Android Automotive architecture, including Car Service, Car APIs, Vehicle HAL (VHAL), System UI, framework customization, multi-user functionality, and driver-distraction requirements.
- Support Android certification and compliance activities, including PCTS execution and Google certification and validation processes.
- Analyze Android Auto connectivity and projection issues using GAL monitor logs and other diagnostic tools.
- Perform detailed debugging and root-cause analysis using Logcat, ANR traces, tombstones, Systrace, Perfetto, kernel logs, and boot-sequence diagnostics.
- Investigate memory, CPU, latency, and overall system performance issues across embedded Android platforms.
- Contribute to platform bring-up, middleware integration, infotainment feature validation, and production-quality software delivery.
- Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle and participate in Agile practices.
- Proactively identify technical issues, develop effective solutions, and contribute to continuous improvements in development and validation processes.
- Mentor junior engineers and share technical knowledge while maintaining high standards for code quality, reliability, and delivery.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
- 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience, with strong hands-on experience in Android development.
- Strong programming expertise in Kotlin, Java, and C++, with a solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, object-oriented programming, and software design patterns.
- Proven experience developing with Android Auto, including API integration and application development.
- Hands-on experience with Android Automotive OS (AAOS), AOSP-based systems, infotainment platforms, or embedded Android environments.
- Strong understanding of Android core components, Android IPC, AIDL, Binder framework, and system-level services.
- Experience with Android Automotive concepts such as Car Service, Car APIs, VHAL, System UI, multi-user environments, and automotive application lifecycle management.
- Experience with Android debugging and profiling tools, including Logcat and Android Studio Profiler, with the ability to analyze ANR traces, tombstones, Perfetto/Systrace output, kernel logs, and performance data.
- Experience with Android Auto projection architecture, media frameworks, and infotainment integrations.
- Experience supporting Android certification activities, with at least one complete AA certification experience preferred.
- Familiarity with Bluetooth, USB, Wi-Fi, and other automotive connectivity technologies is an advantage.
- Experience with Git, SVN, or other version control systems is preferred.
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting abilities, with a structured approach to root-cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently, manage priorities in a fast-paced environment, and mentor junior engineers.
