Senior Software Engineer

Salary: $130,000 – $165,000 per year

At Sightline Intelligence, we develop vision-based AI, onboard video processing and geospatial technology for defence and security applications. Our teams in Australia and the United States bring together expertise in software, machine learning and hardware to support customers around the world.

We’d love to welcome an experienced C++ engineer who enjoys solving interesting problems, sharing ideas and seeing their work become part of a finished product. Joining our Brisbane team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues locally and overseas, help shape technical decisions and stay hands-on with development, taking features from initial design through to deployment and ongoing improvement.

What you’ll be working on

You’ll work primarily in modern C++, staying involved throughout the software development lifecycle. Alongside the team, you’ll:

• Take ownership of major features and subsystems, helping turn initial ideas and requirements into well-designed, tested and released software.

• Shape practical technical solutions, considering performance, reliability, maintainability and delivery.

• Work through complex software issues, improve performance and help strengthen our testing, build and deployment processes.

• Collaborate across engineering disciplines, exchange feedback through code reviews and support other engineers as they develop their skills.

There’s room to contribute both to the products we create and to the way we work together to build them.

What you’ll bring to the team

We’d love to hear from you if you have:

• Experience developing and delivering complex production software in C++.

• A solid understanding of software architecture, concurrency, memory management and performance optimisation.

• An interest in working through challenging technical problems and talking through possible solutions.

• A collaborative approach and a willingness to share your knowledge and learn from others.

• A degree in software engineering, computer science or a related field.

Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, Qualcomm or other edge-computing platforms would be a welcome addition. The same goes for computer vision, robotics, autonomous systems, real-time software or defence.

If these areas are new to you, that’s okay. Previous experience in them isn’t essential, and we’d be interested to hear how your C++ and software engineering experience could translate.
