Senior Software Engineer, Autonomous Systems, Backend

Triumphant Nerd is searching for a Senior Software Engineer to build command-and-control software and backend services for our client’s autonomous systems.

We're looking for a hands-on engineer with 4+ years of backend or service-layer engineering experience and a background in autonomy. You'll connect sensors, robotic platforms, and intelligent software, building cloud and edge systems that help operators manage autonomous vehicles and fleets in real-world missions.

What we're looking for:

• 4+ years of backend or service-layer software engineering experience, currently working as a hands-on individual contributor
• Experience building and owning core backend services, including microservices, APIs, or middleware connecting multiple systems
• Hands-on experience with real-time data exchange and messaging between live external services
• *Must have: background in autonomous vehicles, drones, robotics, or factory automation
• Tech stack: Rust, Python, C++, or Java
• Experience shipping software from prototype to field deployment in a startup or similarly fast-moving environment
• Ability to build scalable, reliable systems and collaborate with robotics, hardware, and systems engineering teams
• Experience integrating LLMs, AI agents, or related toolchains is a plus
• Degree in computer science, robotics, electrical engineering, or a related technical field
• Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a U.S. security clearance
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Seattle, NYC, Washington, DC, or Palo Alto
• Salary: Up to $275K, plus equity and great perks
