Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work closely with government agencies to design, develop, and enhance robust systems that support Weather Information Dissemination.

In this role, you will collaborate with cross‑functional teams and stakeholders to deliver scalable, resilient, and secure software solutions. You will play a key role in driving engineering best practices, improving delivery efficiency, and ensuring system reliability in mission‑critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

Software Engineering & Solution Delivery

  • Partner with software engineers and cross‑functional teams to understand business objectives related to development efficiency, system reliability, and operational resilience.
  • Translate business and operational requirements into technical solutions, demonstrating how engineering best practices and modern technologies can achieve desired outcomes.
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and applications that support weather information dissemination platforms.
  • Build and maintain batch‑processing jobs, scheduled tasks, and automation scripts to support business and operational processes.
  • Develop solutions that process and manage real‑time and streaming data efficiently and reliably.

Technical Assessment & Architecture

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of existing systems, technical architectures, workflows, and development processes to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Analyze current‑state environments and recommend target‑state architectures that improve scalability, maintainability, security, and operational effectiveness.
  • Develop implementation and transition roadmaps that guide stakeholders from current‑state systems to future‑state solutions.

Engineering Excellence & Best Practices

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to identify and adopt appropriate engineering practices, including:
    • Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
    • Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
    • Infrastructure Automation
    • Cloud‑Native Development
    • Observability and Monitoring
  • Advocate and implement software engineering best practices to improve code quality, reliability, and delivery efficiency.
  • Produce architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and implementation guides to support solution delivery and knowledge transfer.

Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration

  • Communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Present actionable recommendations and implementation strategies to address business and operational challenges.
  • Support Proof of Concept (POC) initiatives by validating proposed solutions and providing hands‑on technical assistance during pilot and early implementation phases.
  • Work closely with fellow engineers to share knowledge, reusable components, tools, and automation scripts, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

Mandatory Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline.
  • At least 6 years of hands‑on experience in software engineering or software development role.
  • Strong experience in backend development using Node.js and TypeScript.
  • Experience working with one or more major cloud platforms, including:
    • Amazon Web Services (AWS)
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
  • Experience developing and maintaining batch‑processing applications, scheduled jobs, and automation scripts.
  • Experience designing and implementing solutions that process streaming or real‑time data.
  • Strong understanding of software architecture, system integration, and modern software development practices.

Preferred Experience

  • Proven track record of delivering large‑scale software solutions in complex enterprises or government environments.
  • Experience implementing CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience working with event‑driven architectures, message queues, or streaming platforms such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar technologies.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, observability, and logging platforms.
