Job Overview
The Senior Software Engineer is responsible for defining, implementing, and maintaining custom software products for medium and high throughput automated research systems. Together we'll be giving scientists around the world the tools to craft the next generation of medical treatments, improvements in agricultural crops, and other life science innovations. Work is performed in a team environment consisting of various engineering disciplines, project managers, and technicians.
This position reports to the Senior Manager, ASG Innovation and is part of the Access Solutions Group located in Indianapolis and will be an on-site role. The ASG delivers over 400 custom projects per year in a fast-paced, collaborative setting.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain device integrations for custom liquid handling robotic systems across multiple communication protocols (REST, gRPC, Serial, Web Sockets, SiLA).
- Own software design and implementation for new product development, collaborating cross functionally with hardware, systems, and application scientists.
- Partner with scientists and lab automation engineers to diagnose and resolve complex integration issues across APIs, services, and third-party devices.
- Debug system behavior across hardware/software boundaries, including timing, communication, and scheduling interactions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
- 5+ years of professional software development experience (3+ with a master’s degree).
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills.
- Strong proficiency in C#/.NET (Java experience also considered).
Preferred Experience
- WPF or desktop application development.
- Containerization and Orchestration technology (e.g., Docker, Podman, Kubernetes).
- Troubleshooting network-related issues (latency, connectivity, DNS resolution).
- Hardware integrations or lab automation systems.

Compensation & Benefits
The salary range for this role $95,000 - $105,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
