Senior Software Engineer, Fleet Management
Summary
Builds and maintains fleet management platform for autonomous vehicles, including software deployment, vehicle monitoring, and real-time operations interfaces. Core tech: full-stack (React/TypeScript frontend, Rust/Go/Node.js backend), Kubernetes, Azure, and distributed systems.
The role
As a Senior Software Engineer on our Fleet Management team, you'll build the platform that lets Wayve's engineers and operators deploy software, monitor vehicle health, and understand what's happening across the fleet in real time. The team also plays a central role in Wayve's robotaxi operations, acting as the interface between our vehicles and the external services that dispatch and manage autonomous rides. These aren't traditional enterprise tools; the software you build connects our engineers and operators directly with vehicles operating on public roads.
You'll take projects from problem definition through technical design, implementation, deployment, and operation, working directly with Research, Safety, Operations, SRE, and Infrastructure to deliver solutions that scale with Wayve's growing fleet.
This is an opportunity to join an early-stage team building fleet infrastructure across a global AV fleet and multiple OEM integrations — each with its own configuration, protocols, and engineering challenges. You'll shape how the team works as much as what it builds.
Key responsibilities
Build reliable distributed services and workflows for deploying software, AI models, and configurations across vehicles that may be intermittently connected; solve for correctness, ordering, and rollback in environments where connectivity is not guaranteed.
Build and maintain the services that support robotaxi operations — the interfaces and systems that connect Wayve's vehicles to external dispatch services and enable remote autonomous operations at scale.
Develop scalable services, APIs, and intuitive interfaces that give engineers deep visibility into vehicle state and enable fast, confident diagnosis of issues.
Build tools and services that enable engineers and researchers to explore and understand large volumes of vehicle telemetry and operational data.
Develop reporting and analytics tools that track vehicle utilisation, system performance, and mission outcomes, enabling data-driven engineering and operational decisions.
Design and build systems spanning web applications, backend services, embedded APIs, and cloud infrastructure, taking end-to-end ownership of their quality and evolution in production.
Write high-quality, well-tested code, contribute to design and code reviews, and help other engineers grow.
About you
Essential skills
Significant professional experience building, shipping, and operating production full-stack applications and web services, with strong hands-on depth across the stack: React, TypeScript, and MUI on the frontend; Rust, Go, and Node.js on the backend (Rust is a plus but not required); and Kubernetes, Azure, and Bazel for infrastructure.
Experience designing, building, and operating APIs and web services, including sound judgement around API contracts, data modelling, service boundaries, reliability, observability, and failure handling.
A track record of independently owning meaningful projects end-to-end, from problem definition and technical design through implementation, deployment, and production operation.
Experience with distributed systems and microservice architectures, with an understanding of reliability, consistency, scalability, and failure modes across service boundaries.
Experience using metrics, logs, traces, and observability tooling to understand production systems and make data-driven decisions.
Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Product, engineering, and operational teams across the organisation.
An interest in mentoring engineers, improving engineering practices, and contributing to technical direction.
Desirable skills
Experience with autonomous vehicles, self-driving technology, robotaxi operations, robotics, or connected vehicle fleets.
Experience building data pipelines, analytics tools, or working with large-scale telemetry data.
Background in distributed systems, networking, or embedded and on-device software.
Experience with fleet management, OTA deployment, remote device management, or operational tooling.
Familiarity with multi-OEM or multi-platform environments where hardware configurations vary across integrations.
This is a full-time role based in our office in London or Sunnyvale. At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home.
The reasonably estimated salary for this role ranges from $209,700 to $266,800 plus a competitive equity package. Actual compensation is based on the candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience.
