Senior Software Engineer | 100% remote (Brazil) | PJ (Long-Term)

We are seeking a Senior Full-Stack Software Engineer to design, build, and ship production-ready backend services, internal tooling, and web applications. This is an opportunity for a highly autonomous engineer who is comfortable working through ambiguity, influencing technical direction, and owning projects end-to-end.

The strongest technical background for this role combines Java, Kotlin, Ruby, and React. While the existing technology ecosystem includes Ruby and Elixir, new development is increasingly focused on Kotlin and Java, making strong JVM fundamentals particularly important for this position.

You will work closely with product, design, engineering leadership, and cross-functional stakeholders to solve complex problems, make sound architectural decisions, and build reliable systems that are easy to operate and extend.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, test, and deploy backend services, APIs, internal tools, and user-facing web applications.
• Own medium-to-large features and projects end-to-end, from requirements and system design through implementation, deployment, and ongoing maintenance.
• Develop primarily across a modern stack including Kotlin, Java, Ruby, React, TypeScript, GraphQL, Kafka, AWS/Lambda, PostgreSQL, and DynamoDB.
• Contribute to new projects built with Kotlin and Java, applying strong JVM engineering fundamentals.
• Work with existing Ruby and Elixir-based systems, contributing to and extending established services where needed.
• Build performant, secure, reliable, maintainable, and highly testable production code.
• Design and evolve distributed systems, microservices, APIs, and event-driven architectures.
• Influence technical direction, including architecture, engineering standards, system design, and delivery practices.
• Collaborate with product and engineering stakeholders to clarify ambiguous requirements and translate business needs into effective technical solutions.
• Integrate services with neighboring teams, shared platforms, and complex domain systems.
• Review pull requests, provide thoughtful technical feedback, pair with teammates, and support onboarding and knowledge sharing.
• Deploy user-facing and operator-facing functionality responsibly to production.
• Improve system reliability and maintainability through observability, metrics, monitoring, incident analysis, and continuous technical improvement.
• Leave systems easier to understand, operate, and extend than you found them.

Required Experience

• 3+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong experience building production-ready backend systems and web applications.
• Hands-on experience with Java and/or Kotlin, with the ability and willingness to work extensively on JVM-based services.
• Professional experience with Ruby and React or comparable full-stack technologies.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design, APIs, databases, and distributed systems.
• Experience influencing technical direction rather than simply implementing predefined requirements.
• Experience with system design and architectural decision-making.
• Familiarity with RESTful APIs, Git, TypeScript, version control, IDEs, and deployment tooling.
• Understanding of event-driven architectures and event streaming, such as Kafka.
• Strong database fundamentals and experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with GraphQL or comparable API technologies.
• Ability to work with complex domain data, business rules, validations, and integrations across multiple services.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with product, engineering, and other stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and effectively in ambiguous environments.

Preferred Qualifications

• Production experience developing Kotlin and Java services, including common JVM frameworks and tooling.
• Experience working with Ruby and/or Elixir in production environments.
• Experience designing and building microservices integrated with neighboring teams or shared platforms.
• Experience with eCommerce, marketplace, or other complex transactional platforms.
• Experience with AWS and serverless technologies such as Lambda.
• Experience with Kafka or other event-streaming platforms.
• Experience with PostgreSQL, DynamoDB, or similar relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience integrating LLMs or managed AI APIs into backend services or internal tooling, including use cases such as enrichment, classification, attribution, or human-in-the-loop workflows.
• Experience with production monitoring, dashboards, observability, and incident response.
• Experience using Python for production backend or service-oriented development.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate is a senior-level full-stack engineer with strong Java/Kotlin fundamentals, solid Ruby and React experience, and a proven ability to take ownership of complex projects from concept to production.

We are especially interested in engineers who are generalists at heart—people who can move between backend, frontend, APIs, databases, distributed systems, and infrastructure when the problem requires it, rather than being limited to a single technology or specialty.
