Senior Software Engineer - Signal Processing Location: Kongsberg Discovery, Bergen

Summary

Design and optimize advanced signal processing algorithms for real-time acoustic monitoring and sensing systems used in commercial and naval applications.

Senior Software Engineer - Signal Processing

Discovery is growing, and we want you to be part of our journey. Join our Software Development team and contribute to the development of advanced monitoring and sensing solutions for both commercial and naval applications. Our product portfolio includes subsea leak detection systems, condition monitoring systems for rotating machinery, and acoustic monitoring solutions supporting naval operations worldwide.

The Senior Software Engineer – Signal Processing will be responsible for the design, development, and optimization of advanced signal processing software used in monitoring, surveillance, and sensing systems for commercial and naval applications.

The role combines strong theoretical expertise in signal processing with practical software engineering and system integration. The position involves developing algorithms for acoustic monitoring, beamforming, array processing, source localization, and detection using data from advanced sensor systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with software, systems, hardware, and FPGA teams to develop robust and scalable solutions. In addition to hands‑on development, the role is expected to contribute to software architecture, technical leadership, mentoring, and strategic technology decisions within the signal processing domain.

What you will be doing

  • Design, develop, and maintain advanced signal processing algorithms for real‑time and offline applications
  • Develop and optimize algorithms for beamforming, array processing, source localization, and object tracking
  • Implement and optimize signal processing solutions in production‑grade software
  • Work with data from acoustic sensors and measurement systems, including filtering, spectral analysis, detection, localization, and tracking
  • Participate in software architecture and design reviews
  • Troubleshoot, analyze, and improve existing algorithms and software implementations
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid‑level engineers

We think you should have

  • Master’s or PhD in Signal Processing, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Strong theoretical and practical background in signal processing (e.g. FFT, filtering, time‑frequency analysis, detection, estimation)
  • Solid experience with software development using C#, .NET, C/C++, Python, or similar technologies
  • Good understanding of numerical methods and algorithm optimization
  • Familiarity with Linux‑based development environments
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills
  • Professional working proficiency in English

What you bring

  • Experience with real‑time or embedded systems
  • Experience with beamforming, array processing, source localization, and object tracking
  • Experience from industrial, subsea, energy, or instrumentation domains
  • Knowledge of acoustic, vibration, or other physical measurement systems
  • Experience with MATLAB or similar signal processing tools
  • Familiarity with version control systems (e.g. Git) and CI/CD pipelines

This employment may require a pre‑employment check procedure in accordance with company security standards, role or site requirements. Please note that this might affect the offer process or employment.
