Senior/Staff Product Engineer, Applied AI and Agents
Summary
Senior/Staff engineer building applied-AI products for an early-stage staffing marketplace: wiring frontier models and agents into sourcing, vetting, matching, and workforce workflows while architecting the Python/TypeScript backend, APIs, and distributed services behind them. On-site in San Francisco; $200k-$300k base plus visa sponsorship.
About the Role
Join an early-stage team building applied AI products for a staffing marketplace serving industrial and operations-focused businesses. You will connect AI agents to core product workflows and help shape the backend platform, agent architecture, and systems that power matching, vetting, and workforce operations.
What You'll Do
Apply frontier models and existing agents to automate sourcing, vetting, matching, and worker placement workflows.
Build and evolve agent harnesses, evaluations, orchestration patterns, and model integrations.
Architect core backend services and platform systems, including matching and autonomous vetting pipelines.
Improve system performance, reliability, and scalability across APIs, data models, and distributed services.
Make architectural decisions with a long-term view while adapting priorities to emerging product and infrastructure needs.
Work across teams and with customers to translate operational problems into practical, production-ready systems.
What We're Looking For
Typically 5 or more years of software engineering experience for Senior roles, or 7 or more years for Staff roles, including end-to-end product ownership in early-stage teams.
Hands-on experience shipping products at a fast-growing startup, with a record of delivering at high velocity amid ambiguity and cross-functional challenges.
Strong Python and/or TypeScript/Node.js skills, plus experience designing distributed systems, APIs, and data models. PostgreSQL and messaging systems such as Kafka or RabbitMQ are relevant.
Experience building and operating production AI agent systems, including decisions about prompting, retrieval, fine-tuning, code, orchestration, and evaluation.
Strong product judgment and experience with applied AI, marketplaces, matching or recommendation systems, or operational workflows.
Comfort using coding agents in day-to-day development and turning ambiguous problems into working prototypes.
Strong technical fundamentals and a history of sustained roles rather than frequent short stints.
