Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Platform

Build and scale AWS-based infrastructure and TypeScript developer tooling (libraries, SDKs, CI/CD) to improve engineering velocity and reliability.

Location: United States - Remote
Employment: Full-time
Compensation: $150K–$350K + competitive equity
Experience: 7+ years
Work authorization: Candidates must already be authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

About the Role

For one of our clients, we are looking for a Senior/Staff Software Engineer, Platform to build and scale the infrastructure, developer tooling, and internal systems that enable engineering teams to ship software quickly, safely, and reliably.

This is a software engineering-focused platform role, not a traditional DevOps or infrastructure-only position. We are looking for someone who is equally comfortable owning AWS infrastructure and writing production TypeScript, particularly internal libraries, SDKs, and developer tooling.

You will have significant ownership over the platform and help shape how engineering teams build, test, deploy, and operate software as the product and organization scale.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Own and evolve AWS infrastructure using Terraform and Pulumi, treating infrastructure as an internal product.
  • Build internal developer platforms and tooling that improve engineering velocity and developer experience.
  • Design and maintain backend TypeScript libraries, shared SDKs, and reusable tooling used across engineering teams.
  • Build and improve CI/CD pipelines, including Buildkite-based workflows.
  • Develop per-pull-request ephemeral environments that make testing and deploying changes faster and safer.
  • Improve platform reliability through SLOs, monitoring, auto-scaling, observability, and incident response.
  • Build and enhance observability using tools such as Datadog.
  • Solve infrastructure and application scaling challenges across databases, compute, and services.
  • Optimize Aurora PostgreSQL and other platform components as workloads and usage grow.
  • Work closely with product engineers to identify bottlenecks and create self-service solutions rather than relying on manual infrastructure processes.
  • Help establish engineering standards and technical patterns across the organization.

What We're Looking For

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, ideally with significant platform or infrastructure engineering ownership.
  • Strong experience building and operating production systems on AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code, particularly Terraform and/or Pulumi.
  • Strong TypeScript development experience — you should be comfortable building backend libraries, SDKs, APIs, or internal developer tools, not only infrastructure.
  • Experience designing internal developer platforms, tooling, or self-service infrastructure.
  • Strong understanding of CI/CD, deployment automation, and modern software delivery practices.
  • Experience with production reliability, including SLOs, observability, incident response, and auto-scaling.
  • Experience operating and scaling databases such as PostgreSQL/Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Ability to work autonomously, make technical decisions, and take end-to-end ownership of complex platform initiatives.
  • Strong software engineering mindset with an interest in improving the experience and productivity of other engineers.

Particularly Relevant Background

We are especially interested in engineers who have worked at the intersection of software engineering and infrastructure.

The strongest candidates will have experience building infrastructure and writing software that other engineers use — for example, internal TypeScript libraries, SDKs, deployment tooling, developer platforms, CI/CD systems, or infrastructure automation.

Candidates whose experience is primarily DevOps/SRE operations, cluster administration, or infrastructure configuration without substantial software development are unlikely to be the right fit.

Interview Process

  1. Initial Screening - CV Review: Your application will be reviewed within 24 hours of submission.

    • Short Q/A Session: To assess your experience and technical background, you'll be invited to complete one of the following:
    • Automated Q/A session (recommended for faster feedback), or Recruiter interview.
    • Candidates whose experience best matches the role will be shortlisted and presented to the hiring manager.
  2. CEO Interview
  3. Live Coding Challenge
  4. Policy Engine / System Design Interview
  5. Product / Operations Interview
  6. CTO Interview

The live coding stage includes hands-on TypeScript/Node.js development, so candidates should be comfortable working directly in a TypeScript codebase.

Additional Information

  • We recommend completing the Automated Q/A Session during the pre-screening stage, as it typically allows us to provide feedback more quickly.
  • Candidates who prefer a traditional approach may instead complete the pre-screening with one of our recruiters.
  • We aim to keep candidates informed throughout the process and provide updates after each completed stage.
