Senior UI/UX Designer
Summary
Intermedia is hiring a Senior UI/UX Designer to define AI-powered experiences (copilots, conversational interfaces, agentic workflows) across its business communication products. The designer owns work end-to-end from research through launch, mainly in Figma, partnering with PM, AI/ML, and engineering teams to make AI simple, trustworthy, and useful.
Responsibilities
- Design intuitive user experiences for AI-powered capabilities across web, desktop, mobile, and administrative interfaces.
- Explore new interaction models for generative AI, including conversational interfaces, copilots, AI assistants, intelligent recommendations, content generation, summarization, and AI-driven workflow automation.
- Design experiences for emerging agentic AI capabilities where AI systems can reason, recommend actions, execute tasks, and coordinate multi-step workflows on behalf of users.
- Translate complex AI functionality into simple, understandable interactions appropriate for everyday business users.
- Determine when AI should proactively assist users versus when users should explicitly initiate or control AI functionality.
- Design effective patterns for prompts, suggestions, generated content, AI actions, confirmations, feedback, and human intervention.
- Create experiences that communicate what an AI system is doing, why it made a recommendation, and what actions it has taken or intends to take.
- Own design initiatives from discovery and concept development through prototyping, implementation, launch, and post-launch optimization.
- Conduct user research, usability studies, interviews, competitive analysis, and workflow analysis to understand customer needs and behaviors.
- Translate customer problems and product requirements into user journeys, workflows, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
- Develop and validate design hypotheses through rapid prototyping and user testing.
- Identify opportunities to simplify complex workflows through thoughtful UX and intelligent automation.
- Use qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate experiences and recommend improvements.
- Work closely with Product Management to ensure designs address meaningful customer problems and measurable business outcomes.
- Design AI experiences that establish appropriate levels of trust, transparency, and user control.
- Clearly distinguish AI-generated information and actions where appropriate.
- Design graceful experiences for uncertainty, incomplete information, errors, hallucinations, and situations where the AI cannot confidently complete a request.
- Create effective confirmation, undo, escalation, and human-in-the-loop patterns for AI-driven actions.
- Design feedback mechanisms that allow users to evaluate, correct, or improve AI-generated results.
- Partner with Product, Engineering, Security, Privacy, and Legal teams to incorporate responsible AI principles into the user experience.
- Help establish UX guidelines for consistent and responsible use of AI throughout Intermedia products.
- Contribute to and evolve Intermedia's design system to support AI-powered experiences.
- Define reusable patterns and components for conversational interfaces, AI recommendations, generated content, AI actions, status indicators, feedback mechanisms, and agentic workflows.
- Ensure new AI capabilities integrate naturally with established product experiences rather than feeling like disconnected features.
- Maintain consistency across products while identifying where emerging AI interactions require new design paradigms.
- Partner with designers and developers to ensure design-system components are practical, scalable, accessible, and consistently implemented.
- Partner closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, AI/ML engineers, software engineers, architects, researchers, and other designers.
- Facilitate design workshops and collaborative discovery sessions to explore customer problems and AI opportunities.
- Clearly communicate design rationale, research findings, user needs, and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Challenge assumptions and advocate for customer-centered solutions when technology or implementation considerations begin driving the experience.
- Provide design leadership and mentorship to other designers and help raise the overall quality of UX across the organization.
- Collaborate effectively across multiple teams and product areas to create coherent end-to-end customer experiences.
- Stay current with emerging AI technologies, interaction patterns, and design practices and translate relevant developments into practical product experiences.
- 5+ years of professional UI/UX, Product Design, or Interaction Design experience, ideally designing complex SaaS or enterprise software.
- A strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design, complex workflows, interaction design, and thoughtful problem solving.
- Excellent knowledge of usability, UX/UI, interaction design, information architecture, accessibility, and human factors principles.
- Strong ability to analyze complex requirements and turn them into simple, elegant solutions.
- Experience conducting or participating in user research and usability testing.
- Strong proficiency with Figma, prototyping tools, and modern design-system practices.
- Experience working closely with Product Management and Engineering in an Agile software-development environment.
- Strong communication, presentation, collaboration, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with ambiguity and rapidly evolving requirements.
- Strong attention to detail while maintaining an understanding of the broader product and customer experience.
- Experience designing products or features powered by generative AI, machine learning, or intelligent automation.
- Understanding of large language models (LLMs) and the opportunities and limitations they introduce into product experiences.
- Familiarity with conversational UX and natural-language interfaces.
- Understanding of concepts such as prompts, context, AI-generated content, confidence and uncertainty, hallucinations, and AI feedback loops.
- Familiarity with AI agents and emerging patterns for designing systems that can perform multi-step actions on behalf of users.
- Experience thinking through trust, transparency, explainability, privacy, and user control in AI experiences.
- A strong interest in experimenting with new AI tools and interaction models.
- Experience designing enterprise communications, collaboration, contact center, productivity, or workflow-automation products.
- Experience designing AI copilots, assistants, conversational interfaces, or agentic workflows.
- Experience developing or contributing to large-scale design systems.
- Experience with voice and multimodal interfaces.
- Understanding of accessibility standards and inclusive design.
- Familiarity with HTML/CSS and the technical constraints of modern web applications.
- Experience using AI-assisted design and prototyping tools.
- Experience working with globally distributed Product and Engineering teams.
- Customers immediately understand how AI can help them.
- Complex AI capabilities feel simple and natural to use.
- Users remain informed and in control when AI recommends or takes actions.
- AI features integrate seamlessly into existing customer workflows.
- Common AI interaction patterns become consistent across Intermedia products.
- Research and customer feedback meaningfully influence AI product decisions.
- Product and Engineering teams view Design as a strategic partner in determining what AI experiences should be built, not simply how they should look.
Ultimately, you will help establish the design language and interaction principles that shape how customers experience AI across Intermedia's portfolio.
