Senior UX / Product Design Consultant — Project- Based

Project Overview

CI Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior UX/Product Design Consultant to evaluate and improve the usability of an existing software product.

The goal of this engagement is not simply a visual redesign. We are looking for someone who can understand how customers use the product today, identify usability problems and unnecessary complexity, and redesign key workflows so the application is easier to learn, navigate, and operate.

The consultant will work with product, development, support, and other internal stakeholders and, where
appropriate, observe or interview actual users.

Scope of Work

The consultant will:

  • Review the existing application, workflows, navigation, terminology, and interface
  • Meet with internal stakeholders to understand common customer issues, support challenges, and business requirements
  • Conduct user interviews and/or usability sessions with representative users
  • Identify usability problems, confusing workflows, unnecessary steps, and opportunities for simplification
  • Prioritize findings based on user impact and implementation effort
  • Develop improved information architecture and user flows
  • Create wireframes and interactive prototypes for priority workflows
  • Develop a modern, consistent UX/UI direction that can be extended throughout the product
  • Validate proposed designs through usability testing and stakeholder review
  • Work with the development team to ensure recommendations are practical to implement

Required Deliverable

At the completion of the project, CI Solutions should receive a UX Modernization Package containing:

1. Current-State UX Audit

o Key usability findings

o User pain points

o Workflow and navigation issues o Prioritized recommendations

2. Improved User Experience Architecture

o Recommended navigation/information architecture

o Redesigned user flows for agreed-upon priority workflows
o Recommendations for simplifying complex processes

3. Interactive UX/UI Prototype

o High-fidelity designs for the agreed-upon priority areas

o Clickable prototype demonstrating the redesigned experience
o Responsive/accessibility considerations where applicable

4. Reusable Design System

o Core components and interaction patterns

o Typography, spacing, forms, buttons, dialogs, tables, notifications, and

other common interface elements

o Guidance that allows the development team to extend the new experience

consistently

5. Usability Validation

o Testing of the proposed experience with representative users o Summary of findings

o Design revisions based on testing

6. Implementation Roadmap & Developer Handoff

o Prioritized recommendations for implementation

o Identification of quick wins versus larger changes

o Final design files, specifications, and assets

o Walkthrough/handoff session with the development team

Definition of Success

The project will be considered successful when CI Solutions has:

  • A documented understanding of the major usability problems in the existing product
  • A validated redesign of the highest-priority user workflows
  • A consistent UX/UI framework that can be applied throughout the application
  • Designs and specifications sufficiently detailed for the development team to begin implementation
  • A prioritized roadmap for improving areas of the product not redesigned during the initial engagement

Ideal Consultant

We are looking for someone with:

  • 7+ years of UX, product design, or equivalent experience
  • Experience redesigning established B2B, SaaS, enterprise, or operational software
  • Strong UX research and usability-testing skills
  • Experience simplifying complex workflows rather than only improving visual appearance
  • Strong interaction and information-architecture skills
  • Proficiency with Figma or comparable design/prototyping tools
  • Experience creating scalable design systems
  • Ability to communicate directly with users, developers, product stakeholders, and executives
  • A portfolio demonstrating measurable usability improvements to existing products
  • Experience with administrative software, identity/badge systems, printing workflows, education technology or other workflow-heavy applications is a plus.

Proposal Requirements

Candidates should provide:

  • Relevant portfolio examples, particularly redesigns of existing software
  • Proposed approach and project phases
  • Estimated timeline
  • Estimated hours or project fee
  • Availability
  • Description of how user research and usability testing would be incorporated
  • Examples of final deliverables from comparable engagements, where possible

This is initially a projectbased engagement. Successful completion may lead to additional UX/product design work as future needs arise.
