As a Senior VFX Artist, you’ll create expressive, polished real-time visual effects that bring gameplay to life and make every interaction feel impactful and rewarding. You’ll work across combat, character abilities, and environmental effects, combining artistic creativity with technical precision to deliver distinctive visual experiences. You’ll play a key role in shaping visual quality, ensuring effects communicate gameplay clearly while maintaining strong artistic consistency and performance. Collaborating with art directors, game designers, technical artists, and engineers, you’ll transform creative concepts into high-quality in-engine results. This is a hands-on senior role offering substantial artistic ownership, opportunities to influence production standards, and the chance to contribute to an international game development environment. The position is fully remote, with long-term collaboration and opportunities to grow professionally.

Accountabilities

  • Create high-quality, stylized real-time visual effects for gameplay, combat, character abilities, and environments.

  • Develop visually distinctive effects using compelling shape language, color, timing, motion, and composition while maintaining a cohesive artistic direction.

  • Ensure effects communicate gameplay information clearly, balancing visual impact with readability and responsiveness.

  • Refine anticipation, impact, follow-through, and recovery to deliver satisfying and intuitive player feedback.

  • Implement effects directly in Unity3D or comparable game engines using particle systems, shaders, textures, flipbooks, meshes, trails, and other real-time techniques.

  • Optimize particle counts, overdraw, shaders, textures, and other performance-sensitive elements to meet quality and performance requirements across target platforms.

  • Collaborate with art directors, game designers, animators, technical artists, and engineers to translate creative direction and gameplay requirements into effective visual solutions.

  • Work closely with technical teams to resolve rendering and implementation challenges and develop reusable assets, templates, and efficient production workflows.

  • Participate in VFX reviews, contribute to artistic quality standards, and provide constructive feedback to other artists when needed.

  • Take ownership of assigned effects from initial exploration and concept development through implementation, iteration, and final polish.

  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve visual quality, gameplay feedback, and production efficiency.

  • Requirements

    • At least 5 years of professional experience as a real-time VFX Artist in game development.

    • Experience contributing to commercially released games.

    • An outstanding portfolio or VFX reel demonstrating polished, high-quality in-game effects and strong artistic judgment.

    • Proven expertise in creating stylized visual effects with appealing timing, motion, shape language, color, and composition.

    • Excellent understanding of animation principles, visual hierarchy, and gameplay readability.

    • Proficiency in Unity3D particle systems, shaders, materials, and real-time VFX workflows, or comparable experience with another game engine.

    • Practical experience creating textures, flipbooks, mesh particles, trails, and shader-driven effects.

    • Strong understanding of real-time rendering, performance optimization, and the technical constraints of interactive environments.

    • Ability to independently develop visual effects from initial exploration through final in-engine implementation.

    • Strong attention to detail, creative problem-solving skills, and the ability to balance artistic ambition with technical requirements.

    • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English.

    • Experience with stylized mobile games, pixel-inspired or simplified aesthetics, or expressive combat and character effects is an advantage.

    • Additional skills in Shader Graph, HLSL, custom shader development, Houdini, EmberGen, or other VFX creation tools are desirable.

    • Knowledge of mobile GPU optimization, experience mentoring artists, contributing to VFX quality benchmarks, or working in a co-development environment is also beneficial.

    • Benefits

      • Fully remote work: Join an international team in a remote-friendly working environment.

      • Competitive compensation: Compensation is described as competitive, with specific salary details not provided.
