Senior WordPress Developer
Burleigh Heads | Contract | 3 Days Per Week
We build websites that win work, not just awards.
This is an in-house contract role based in Burleigh Heads. Applicants must have full Australian working rights and be available to work from our office three days per week.
Our agency is recognised as a web industry award finalist, and we’ve built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality digital experiences for ambitious Australian businesses.
Our design standards are high. We care about the details. And the quality of our work has been a major part of our growth.
We’re now looking for a Senior WordPress Developer to become a long-term extension of our team and help us continue lifting the standard of our digital output.
This is not a maintenance-only role, and it is not a junior stepping-stone.
We’re looking for an experienced developer who understands what good design looks like and knows how to translate polished Figma designs into responsive, high-performing WordPress websites.
You’ll work closely with our Senior Designer and creative team, take ownership of builds and be trusted to make sound technical and responsive decisions without needing close supervision.
The Role
You’ll be responsible for developing, maintaining and optimising high-quality WordPress websites for a mix of established brands and growing Australian businesses.
Designs and content will be supplied. Your role is to bring those designs to life accurately, make considered decisions across different screen sizes and ensure the finished product performs as well as it looks.
Your responsibilities will include:
Developing custom WordPress websites from Figma designs
Building bespoke themes, templates and functionality
Writing clean, maintainable PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript
Translating designs accurately across desktop, tablet and mobile
Making responsive design decisions where every breakpoint has not been explicitly designed
Optimising websites for performance, usability and technical SEO
Managing website deployments and hosting environments
Troubleshooting technical issues across active projects
Integrating APIs, platforms and third-party tools
Contributing to technical recommendations and project scoping
Collaborating closely with our design, content and strategy teams
You won’t be handed a vague brief and expected to rescue a poorly planned project.
We provide clear direction, structured content and well-considered designs. We’re looking for someone who can take those foundations and turn them into websites we are all proud to deliver.
What We’re Looking For
Essential
At least five years of commercial web development experience
Strong PHP and custom WordPress development skills
Advanced HTML, CSS and modern JavaScript knowledge
Experience building custom WordPress themes
Strong understanding of responsive development
Confidence working directly from Figma
A good eye for design, spacing, typography and visual hierarchy
Solid understanding of performance optimisation and SEO fundamentals
Experience using Git and version control
Ability to scope technical requirements and estimate work accurately
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail
Clear and proactive communication
Ability to work autonomously and take ownership of projects
We’re open to speaking with strong mid-weight developers as well as established senior developers. What matters most is the quality of your work, your technical foundations and your ability to understand and execute good design.
Desirable
Experience with AI-assisted development tools and emerging technologies
Experience with APIs and third-party integrations
WooCommerce or broader eCommerce experience
Hosting and server management knowledge
Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks
Headless WordPress experience
Technical leadership or agency experience
You’ll Fit In If You
Care about quality and notice when the small details are off
Understand that development is part of the overall customer experience
Take responsibility for your work from build through to launch
Communicate early when something needs clarification
Can work independently without disappearing into a project
Value clean code and maintainable solutions
Enjoy working alongside designers and creative people
Prefer thoughtful solutions over quick shortcuts
Want to build websites you’re genuinely proud to show
We’re not looking for someone who simply converts a desktop Figma file into WordPress.
We’re looking for someone who understands the intention behind the design, thinks through how it should behave across devices and knows when to raise a better technical or user experience solution.
The Contract
This is an ongoing contract position based in our Burleigh Heads office for approximately three days per week.
It would suit an experienced contractor, freelancer or developer who already manages their own work but is looking for a reliable, long-term agency partnership.
The exact working arrangement and contract rate will be based on experience, capability and availability.
Due to the nature of our client work, the successful contractor will be required to enter into confidentiality and non-disclosure agreements.
What You’ll Get
Consistent work across approximately three days per week
High-quality Figma designs and organised project handovers
Content supplied before development begins
A steady pipeline of quality website projects
Real input into technical direction and recommendations
A collaborative design and creative team
Variety across brands, industries and project requirements
A team that values standards, accountability and good communication
The opportunity to build a long-term working relationship with an established agency
If you’re an experienced WordPress developer who understands both good development and good design, we’d like to hear from you.
Apply with your CV, a brief introduction and examples of WordPress websites you have personally built. Please also outline your availability and your role in the projects submitted.
