Position Summary:
The Service Technician is responsible for the in-house inspection, troubleshooting, repair, testing, and maintenance of pumps, motors, controls, and related equipment used in municipal water, wastewater, industrial, and commercial applications. This role works primarily within the service shop environment, supporting customers by restoring equipment to proper operating condition and ensuring repairs meet quality and safety standards.The Service Technician utilizes mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills to diagnose equipment failures, perform repairs, conduct performance testing, and recommend corrective actions. This position requires strong attention to detail, teamwork, communication, and a commitment to providing high-quality service. An essential part of this role includes accurately documenting repairs, testing results, and service activities for customer and company records.
Key Duties and Essential Functions:
- Inspect, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and rebuild pumps, motors, controls, and related equipment in a shop environment.
- Perform preventative maintenance, equipment overhauls, and component replacement to restore equipment to manufacturer specifications.
- Disassemble, evaluate, clean, and reassemble pumps and associated mechanical components.
- Conduct operational testing and performance evaluations to verify equipment functionality and repair quality.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Interpret technical manuals, drawings, schematics, and repair documentation.
- Prepare accurate documentation of inspections, repairs, testing results, parts used, and service recommendations.
- Provide technical support and recommendations to internal personnel and customers regarding equipment operation, maintenance, and repair options.
- Assist with inventory management, including identifying parts requirements and maintaining proper stock levels.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
- Operate shop equipment, tools, lifting devices, and testing equipment safely and effectively.
- Assist with occasional field service work, equipment startup, installation support, or emergency customer service needs as required.
- Collaborate with team members to prioritize workloads and ensure timely completion of repair projects.
- Build and maintain positive customer relationships through professional communication and high-quality workmanship.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, safety requirements, and regulatory standards.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical, vocational, or mechanical training preferred.
- Minimum two years of experience troubleshooting, repairing, rebuilding, or maintaining pumps, motors, controls, or related rotating equipment preferred.
- Working knowledge of centrifugal pumps, submersible pumps, pump systems, and associated controls preferred.
- Basic understanding of electrical systems, motor controls, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and repair documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to safely lift and move equipment, components, and materials as required.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Occasional overtime, weekend work, and limited travel may be required to support customer needs.
This position has been designated as safety-sensitive because the individual performs duties that directly affect the health and safety of the employee, coworkers, customers, and the general public. These duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Operating power tools, lifting equipment, hoists, forklifts, and other shop equipment.
- Repairing, testing, and operating pumps, motors, and associated equipment.
- Working with electrical systems and rotating machinery.
- Handling hazardous materials, lubricants, cleaning agents, and pressurized systems.
- Diagnosing and testing equipment that could create safety hazards if improperly repaired or operated.
- Driving company vehicles to transport equipment or perform occasional field service activities.
- Following lockout/tagout procedures and other required safety protocols.
