Summary Position responsible for installing, repairing, and restoring different roof systems using materials such as: tar, asphalt, gravel, rubber, thermoplastics, metal, and shingles.
This position reports directly to a Foreman, or in their absence, to a Superintendent.
This position is an hourly, non-exempt, variable hour position.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Conduct the daily onsite safety brief prior to the start of the job/project with the Account Manager, and Superintendent. Inspect and ensure all surroundings, equipment and tools and identify and discuss any safety concerns. Complete the Daily Safety Sheet form and submit to the Supervisors as applicable.
• Maintain employee and site safety in OSHA compliance
• Proper installation or repair of all roofing systems exactly as specified
• Direct the crew; instruct employees, assign and allocate work
• Document project progress and activities
• Responsible for crew production and quality of workmanship
• Maintain good customer relations
• Requisition additional materials
• Responsible for company issued equipment
• Evaluate roof mechanics and helpers / laborers
• Ensure all project communication is completed prior to the start of any project. This includes but is not limited to communication with:
o Superintendent for a daily / weekly schedule
o Crew members to discuss scope of work and daily tasks
o Superintendent on schedule changes, project and crew update, etc.
• Efficient project management will include managing crew start and end times, production rates, ensuring tools and materials are available to safely and efficiently complete the assigned project. Complete the project per the scope or work or specification.
• The Journeyman will complete an end of day and/or end of project walk through to ensure quality repairs and address any items prior to leaving the job site. Before and after pictures will be sent to the Account Manager / Superintendent and information will be sent daily on project status. These items will include detailed work performed updates, materials consumed, and supplies purchases are all recorded daily.
• Ensure that all crew have a professional appearance
• Ensure any customer interaction (by a crew member or the Journeyman) is always relayed to the Superintendent immediately
• The Journeyman is responsible for the ordering, tracking and monitoring inventory
• Manage, monitor and document performance of Journeymen and Laborers and take appropriate steps or corrective measures to resolve employee and work related issues. Consult with the Superintendent and Human Resources as needed.
• Perform any other duty and/or project as required or assigned by the Superintendent and/or Regional Branch Manager, or COO.
