Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET)
Salary: RM 6,000 – RM 9,000 per month
About the role
We are looking for an SDET to build the tools our QA team tests with, and to find out how our systems hold up under heavy load.
This is a hands-on coding role, and our team develops with AI every day. You will write distributed stress and performance tests against our HTTP, WebSocket and gRPC services, automate testing of our web and mobile apps on real devices, and build the platform our QA team uses to schedule, run and report on its tests, along with the MCP servers and tools that AI agents use to work with it. Your findings go straight to product, development and DevOps teams, and help decide when a release is ready and how much load it can take.
The role suits a software engineer who enjoys breaking systems as much as building them.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and maintain distributed stress test / load test / performance test scripts written in NodeJS (JavaScript) / Rust against HTTP APIs, WebSockets, and gRPC services.
Execute distributed stress tests, analyse and compile results, and communicate findings to product managers, development teams, and DevOps teams to support release and capacity decisions.
Investigate stress and load test outcomes — throughput limits, latency degradation, error rates, and resource saturation — and work with development and DevOps teams to pinpoint root cause and validate fixes.
Develop, implement, and maintain the QA team's automated testing platform, spanning backend services and frontend dashboards — covering test case orchestration, scheduling, distributed execution, and result reporting.
Use AI coding tools every day to build and maintain test scripts, tooling and platform features — review what they produce, and own the code that ships.
Build and maintain automated test suites for web and mobile applications using Playwright, Appium, CDP, and ADB, including real-device execution.
Develop, implement, and maintain small/medium-scale automation projects on an on-demand basis.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
At least 1 year of hands-on experience writing automation or test code (2 years or more preferred), as an SDET, test automation engineer or software developer.
Strong programming skills and coding knowledge in automation
Proficient in JavaScript (NodeJS) and Python3
Working knowledge of HTTP APIs, WebSockets, gRPC, MongoDB, and ReactJS
Hands-on experience developing with AI coding tools — you use them daily, write clear prompts, and review the code they produce rather than accepting it.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to debugging
Able to communicate ideas and situations clearly, both in writing and verbally
Required Language(s): English, Mandarin (you will liaise with Mandarin-speaking counterparts).
Candidates with EQUIVALENT technical skills are ENCOURAGED to apply
Good to have:
Hands-on agent engineering — building AI agents or the parts they run on, such as MCP servers, tools and multi-step workflows — and testing how reliably they work.
Experience with Rust and Redis.
Experience with Playwright, Appium, CDP or ADB.
How this career will benefit you:
Breadth beyond typical QA. You won't just write test scripts — you'll build and own the tooling and platforms the QA team runs on, spanning backend services, frontend dashboards, and device automation. You leave with real software engineering experience, not just testing experience.
Work at scale. Design and run distributed stress and load tests against production-grade systems, and get direct exposure to how large systems actually behave under pressure — the kind of insight most engineers don't get until much later in their career.
Modern, in-demand stack. Hands-on with NodeJS, Python3, Rust, ReactJS, MongoDB, Redis, HTTP/WebSocket/gRPC APIs, plus real-device automation (Appium, Playwright, CDP, ADB) and cloud infrastructure.
AI-assisted automation. Work on the emerging edge of QA — LLM-driven test analysis, self-healing test execution, and intelligent failure diagnosis.
