Our client is a leading public sector organisation driving large-scale digital platforms supporting research, data and innovation. As they continue to expand their engineering capabilities, they are looking for a Software Engineer to build modern backend platforms powering cutting-edge research initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
- Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python (FastAPI).
- Build scalable data ingestion pipelines for structured and unstructured datasets.
- Develop secure, containerised microservices and contribute to a reliable, cloud-ready platform architecture.
- Collaborate closely with researchers, bioinformaticians and cross-functional teams to translate research needs into robust technical solutions.
- Contribute to code quality through automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, code reviews and technical documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent software engineering experience.
- Experience in software development with strong proficiency in Python (experience with Node.js is also welcomed).
- Experience developing RESTful APIs, backend services or microservices using frameworks such as FastAPI or Express.
- Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL) and familiarity with object storage technologies (e.g. Amazon S3).
- Exposure to Docker, Kubernetes, React, cloud-native development or CI/CD practices would be an advantage.
