Software Engineer - Backend Systems

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented Software Engineer with a specialization in backend systems to join their growing team in Bloemfontein. You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable server-side applications and APIs that power their core products. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, test, and deploy high-quality backend services and APIs using languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js.
• Design and optimize database schemas and queries for performance and scalability.
• Implement security and data protection measures within backend systems.
• Collaborate with frontend developers and product managers to deliver seamless application features.
• Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and contribute to improving engineering best practices.
• Monitor system performance and troubleshoot issues in production environments.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Proficiency in one or more backend programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, Go, Node.js).
• Strong understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with RESTful API design and development.
• Familiarity with version control systems (Git) and cloud platforms is a plus.
