Software Engineer (Equipment)

About the Role
SEMI Integration provides MES and factory automation technical services to Singapore wafer fab. We are seeking an experienced Equipment Automation Engineer to design, develop, and support equipment integration and automation solutions that connect production tools to the MES and factory host systems. The successful candidate will implement and maintain Equipment Automation Programs (EAP), SECS/GEM and GEM300 interfaces, and drive tool connectivity, data collection, and automation reliability in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, configure, and maintain Equipment Automation Programs (EAP) to integrate production equipment with the MES and factory host.
• Implement and support SECS/GEM and GEM300communication interfaces (e.g., SECS-I/HSMS) between equipment and hostsystems.
• Design and develop equipment interface software, data collection, alarm/event handling, recipe management, and remote command/control functions.
• Apply C/C++, Java, Python and Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) to develop and customize automation components and equipment drivers.
• Use SQL and relational databases for equipment data collection, tracing, configuration, and reporting.
• Perform equipment connection testing, qualification, and hook-up during tool install and ramp.
• Troubleshoot and resolve equipment communication, automation, and interface issues to minimize production downtime (including on-call/shift support where required).
• Support automation scenarios such as auto-dispatching, WIP tracking, R2R/APC, SPC/FDC, and material handling (AMHS) integration.
• Prepare technical documentation, interface specifications (e.g., GEM/interface A/EDA), and support knowledge transfer.
• Collaborate with equipment vendors, fab engineering, IT/MES, and client stakeholders to deliver project milestones.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer/Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Hands-on experience with equipment automation /integration using SECS/GEM and GEM300 standards (SECS-I, HSMS).
• Strong C/C++ development experience and a solidunderstanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) principles.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational databases(e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, or equivalent).
• Proficiency in both English and Chinese (Mandarin) —required to liaise effectively with Chinese-speaking client stakeholders,equipment vendors, and to work with Chinese-language technical documentation.
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and debuggingskills.
• Ability to work independently and within a team in afast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred/ Advantageous Qualifications
• Relevant semiconductor / wafer fab industryexperience, particularly with EAP platforms
• Experience with 300mm (12") wafer fab operations,tool install, and ramp.
• Familiarity with Interface A / EDA (Equipment DataAcquisition), recipe management, and R2R/APC integration.
• Knowledge of AMHS/material handling integration andfactory scheduling/dispatching systems.
• Experience with additional languages/technologies(Java, C#, .NET, Python, shell scripting) and Unix/Linux and Windowsenvironments.
• Exposure to Agile/DevOps practices, version control(Git/SVN), and CI/CD.
• Experience working in a client-facing orservices/consulting environment.
