Software Engineer I

Overview

Kearfott has an exciting new opportunity for a Software Engineer I to join our Guidance & Navigation Division in Pine Brook, NJ. In this role, you will get the opportunity to participate in the design and development of software destined for Kearfott’s next-generation navigation systems. Opportunities exist in the two key domains: embedded software development, focused on C and real-time application development, and automated test solutions development leveraging application platforms such as LabVIEW and TestStand.

Essential Functions

  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and test of automated test solutions by leveraging LabVIEW and TestStand to validate the performance of Kearfott’s diverse lineup of navigation solutions.
  • Consistent demonstration of initiative, resourcefulness, judgment, cooperation, and ability to communicate technical information.
  • Responsible for performance of assigned tasks within the defined project schedule and cost.
  • Conduct design, analysis, and testing of software subsystems following defined software development processes.
  • Capable of supporting senior project engineers and program managers in interfacing with both commercial and military customers in technical program definition and execution.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal, communications (written and verbal), and personal leadership abilities.
  • Perform software development and integration using cross-compilation tool sets and simulation tools as well as hardware instrumentation such as digital logic analyzers.
  • Capable of supporting new business pursuits and proposal preparation that addresses program technical requirements and associated schedule and costs commensurate with experience level.
  • Travel: Some travel could be required.

Required Skills:

Critical Competencies

  • Working knowledge of new product development processes gained through formal training or work
  • Working knowledge of inertial navigation and GPS functionality a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to be part of a team in the definition, implementation, and demonstration of a solution when presented with a problem or set of
  • Preferred experience in the integration and testing of a problem solution (hardware and/or software tests) which validates the system requirements in a lab and field
  • Capable of supporting Bid and Proposal efforts including Cost Estimating and Technical Writing commensurate with experience level.
  • Ability to perform assigned tasks within the defined project schedule and
  • Drive for results, action
  • Strong presentation skills

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor of Science/Engineering and/or Master of Science /Engineering in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or similar engineering discipline (based upon experience).
  • 0-2 years’ experience in aerospace and/or defense software engineering, integration, and test.
  • Strong Knowledge (proficiency preferred) in LabVIEW, C, C++, MATLAB, Mathcad, Microsoft Office, and test and lab instrumentation tools.
  • Must be a US Citizen

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in New Jersey is $80,000 - $95,000 annually. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to job-related knowledge and skills, experience, and internal consistency.
