What You Will Do
This role is responsible for working alongside a software development team as well as system engineers to produce software that interfaces directly or indirectly with avionics hardware. Software engineers in this role will benefit greatly from having basic systems engineering experience to help them understand the different software and hardware components required to better support customers and ongoing hardware integration efforts. Software engineers in this role are expected to take ownership of moderately complex development tasks and deliver high‑quality solutions with guidance from senior team members. This position offers opportunities to deepen technical understanding of avionics, contribute to mission‑focused avionics integration efforts, and deepen understanding of a variety of technologies.
Engineers shall have the following responsibilities:
- Full-stack web application development (Python + Flask, React, PostgreSQL, JS)
- Supporting aircraft communication, navigation, and surveillance using air-to-ground and ground-to-ground technologies
- Object-oriented programming (C++ primarily)
- Avionics hardware integration and flight simulation development, which often requires reading manuals, interface documents, schematics, and ARINC standards.
- Testing and evaluation of software (unit tests, CI/CD, and/or by hand onsite)
This role is based in Annapolis, Maryland, USA.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Bachelor’s degree in Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) major obtained by start date.
- Object-Oriented Programing (OOP) experience (C++, Java, etc.)
- Experience may be obtained through on-the-job experience, research, coursework, or projects.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Familiarity with network programming concepts, such as TCP/IP and UDP
- Proficiency in version control software such as Git and GitLab
- Familiarity with Linux operating systems such as Debian or Ubuntu
- Experience writing unit tests and verifying software against technical requirements
- Basic experience with requirements gathering and writing technical documentation
- Experience with one or more of the following programming languages or frameworks: (listed in order of preference)
- C++ (such as Qt6 frameworks
- SQL (PostgreSQL , Oracle)
- Docker (including Compose)
- Experience with RESTful APIs and microservice-based architectures using Python
- Ability to adapt to change in a dynamic engineering environment
- Strong problem-solving skills and an attention to detail
- Self-starter with excellent communication skills and desire to collaborate to a positive work environment.

The salary range for this role is 62,900 USD - 119,700 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
