Engineering at Uber means building for real-world impact under real-world constraints. As a Software Engineer II, you will architect the foundational infrastructure that powers business decisions and core services for millions of users. Whether you are scaling distributed storage platforms or building high-performance data pipelines, you will be solving complex challenges at the intersection of low latency, high correctness, and massive scale.

The problems here are messy and the systems are global. You’ll need to make smart decisions with imperfect information, own your work end-to-end, and stay calm when high-load systems are on the line. Rate of Pay: $171,000 to $209,000 per year

What you’ll do

  • Design, develop, and test software applications.
  • Design, develop, and/or test software applications using company technology stack.
  • Apply technical knowledge to evaluate complex data, developments, and projects in order to provide recommendations to resolve technical issues.
  • Support the company's business operations and improve engineering productivity.
  • Build software components that can be integrated into a fully functional software system.
  • Solve production issues in product and system reliability.
  • Integrate Refunds and Appeasements (R&A) Platform with critical external and internal systems, such as Quantum (for risk and fraud checks) and OP (for unified money movement), connecting to various payment platforms like Gulfstream, Wayfare, Axiom, OM, and Bankroll.
  • Implement robust fraud and abuse prevention mechanisms, including integrating Risk Fraud checks, Factual Defects detection, and Persistence Limiters to safeguard against financial losses and ensure compliance.
  • Design and manage data schemas and persistence layers for online (Docstore/Dynamo DB), near real-time (Kafka/Spark), and offline (Hive/BigTable) R&A data, contributing to data consistency, improved traceability, and advanced analytics.
  • May telecommute.

Basic Qualifications

  • Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (Any), Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics, or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a related occupation.
  • Position requires:
    • C++, Python, Java, GIT, or SVN;
    • SQL or MySQL;
    • Data structures and algorithms;
    • Software Architecture Design (Risk Management, Kubernetes orchestration);
    • Debugging and monitoring (VSCode, IntelliJ, or Grafana);
    • Distributed systems (Hadoop, gRPC, Cassandra);
    • Agile (Scrum, Kanban) and Waterfall Software Project Management; and
    • Testing Software Applications (Unit and End-to-End testing).
