Software Engineer:in (Frontend-Focused)
Summary
Build a climate-focused web-GIS platform in React/TypeScript, occasionally contributing to Python/Django, while shaping AI tool adoption and energy-data solutions.
At Greenventory, we build a data-driven web-GIS platform that helps organizations understand and act on energy and infrastructure data, so cities and companies can actually move toward climate neutrality.
We work out of a modern office in Freiburg, with the flexibility to also work from home. We're a fast-moving, international development team, and we're looking for a Software Engineer to take ownership of frontend work and help shape how we build our product.
You'll be joining developers who've already been working on the project for several years. You'll get to take on real responsibility quickly, make meaningful technical decisions, and have a direct impact on what we build.
Tasks
- Own frontend features end to end, from the initial idea through to a shipped feature, with real autonomy over how you get there
- Work primarily in our React/TypeScript frontend, and occasionally contribute to our Python/Django backend when it makes sense
- Contribute to how our team uses AI-assisted development tools, including identifying where they help us move faster and where they don't
- Work with mapping and geospatial data as part of our web-GIS platform
- Care about code quality and architecture where it matters, while knowing when "good enough" is the right call
- Take active ownership of the company's broader needs, whether that means mentoring teammates, championing security standards, or improving how we operate
- Actively spot gaps in our team culture, security, or processes and take the initiative to fix them rather than waiting for a ticket
- Collaborate closely with other developers and the wider team to build useful, reliable products for the energy transition
Requirements
- You notice problems and go fix them without waiting to be told
- You have solid experience in frontend development
- You have excellent command of German or English and are able to explain your ideas and decisions in a coherent and concise manner
- You're a strong general engineer at heart. Frameworks are learnable on the job; fundamentals and judgment aren't
- You have clear, specific opinions about AI-assisted development: where it speeds you up and where you don't trust it
- You're comfortable making your own technical calls and taking responsibility for the outcomes
- You're genuinely interested in the energy and climate space, not just the technology stack
Nice to have (None of these are required, but they'll make your first few months easier) :
- Experience with our stack, particularly React, TypeScript, Python, or Django
- Experience working with GIS, geospatial data, or mapping applications
- Experience in the energy, infrastructure, or climate-tech domain
- Experience with AI development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Cursor)
Benefits
- Meaningful work: Work on a product that helps cities and companies plan their energy and infrastructure systems and move toward climate neutrality
- Real ownership: Take responsibility for what you build and have a genuine influence on technical decisions and product development
- Flexible working: Work in a modern Freiburg office while having the flexibility to work from home
- Competitive compensation: We offer an attractive and competitive salary package
- Team culture: Join a small, international development team with high trust, little bureaucracy, and plenty of room to contribute
- Personal development: Take on responsibility quickly, learn from experienced teammates, and continuously develop your technical and professional skills
- Modern work environment: Work from a well-equipped, modern office in Freiburg
