Software Engineer - Oracle Database
Summary
Designs and implements core database features in C and Java, focusing on SQL/JSON processing and interoperability with MongoDB for Oracle Database.
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer or Software Architect to help design and build advanced database functionality at the intersection of database systems, programming languages, distributed systems, and developer experience. This role is for someone who enjoys solving deep technical problems, working across system layers, and shaping products used by a broad customer base.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement core features for SQL/JSON processing in Oracle Database and the Oracle API for MongoDB
- Work on architecture and implementation across database engine, query processing, language features, APIs, and distributed systems
- Build high‑performance, reliable, and scalable systems in C and Java
- Contribute to areas such as query processing, full‑text search, compilers/language design, optimization, execution, and interoperability across data models
- Investigate and resolve complex customer issues, including working with developer operations and supporting escalations when needed
- Collaborate with product management, support, and engineering teams to translate open‑ended requirements into strong technical solutions
- Provide technical leadership, mentor less experienced engineers, and help raise the engineering bar across the team
Qualifications
- Strong background in database systems
- Strong programming skills in C and Java
- Experience with distributed systems
- Knowledge of compilers, programming languages, or language design
- Strong understanding of SQL
- Experience with one or more of the following: MongoDB, Oracle Database, DynamoDB, PostgreSQL, Lucene, Elasticsearch
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and comfort working on open‑ended, ambiguous problems
- Self‑motivated, with the ability to lead projects and mentor junior engineers
- Comfortable interacting with customers and supporting escalations in partnership with developer operations
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or higher
