About the role

Join Scale AI's Robotics business unit to help solve data challenges in Physical AI spanning robotics, autonomous vehicles, and computer vision. You will build production systems for collecting robotics data, training models, and evaluating performance. This position offers ownership of core platform components and direct collaboration with robotics and AV customers to shape embodied AI systems.

What you’ll do

  • Architect and maintain large-scale data processing pipelines for robotics and autonomous vehicle datasets
  • Create ML training and fine-tuning pipelines using Scale's robotics data assets
  • Work across backend (Python, Node.js, C++) and frontend (React, TypeScript) to deliver complete solutions
  • Build tools and real-time systems for data collection, teleoperation, model evaluation, data curation, and annotation
  • Engage directly with robotics and AV stakeholders to understand technical requirements and guide product direction
  • Design monitoring and evaluation frameworks for robotics models and data quality
  • Tackle complex late-stage industry problems in concurrent and real-time robotic systems with strict timing and data integrity requirements
  • Conduct deep technical investigations, review academic literature, and collaborate with robotics vendors
  • Partner with ML engineers and researchers to move robotics research into production
  • Ship features quickly while preserving system reliability and performance

Requirements

  • 3+ years of high-proficiency software engineering experience with a strong background in complex systems
  • Ability to independently research, analyze, and resolve difficult technical problems
  • Strong programming skills in Python and TypeScript/Node.js for production environments
  • Experience with React and modern frontend development for 3D interfaces
  • Knowledge of concurrent and real-time systems with attention to timing constraints
  • Understanding of distributed systems, workflow orchestration, and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Temporal, Kubernetes, Docker)
  • Experience with databases (MongoDB, PostgreSQL) and large-scale data processing
  • History of working with cross-functional teams including ML engineers, researchers, and customers
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with high autonomy

Nice to have

  • Experience with C++
  • Hands-on work with robotics hardware platforms (robotic arms, mobile robots, perception systems) with focus on time synchronization
  • Background in computer vision, SLAM, motion planning, or imitation learning
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle data, lidar technologies, or 3D data processing
  • Experience with ML model deployment and serving frameworks
  • Knowledge of teleoperation systems (ALOHA, UMI, hand tracking) or VR interfaces
  • Experience with workflow orchestration systems (Temporal, Airflow)
  • Published research or open-source contributions in robotics or autonomous systems
