Salary: $95,000 – $110,000 per year

Own the problem. Fix it properly. Make sure it doesn't keep happening.

RAZOR is looking for an experienced Software Engineer to own the support, maintenance and reliability of the websites, applications, integrations and digital systems we build for our clients. Your background may be as a WordPress developer, PHP developer or web developer.

This isn't a traditional helpdesk role. You'll investigate issues across code, databases, APIs and integrations, implement fixes, deploy changes and follow problems through to resolution. You'll also look for ways to prevent repeat issues using good engineering, AI and automation.

What you'll own

· Investigating and resolving website, application, database, API and integration issues

· Debugging existing code and implementing frontend and backend fixes

· Maintaining applications, dependencies, integrations and production environments

· Managing bug fixes, releases, deployments, security updates and patching

· Monitoring system health, completing root-cause analysis and preventing recurring issues

· Using AI and automation to improve diagnosis and reduce repetitive work

· Communicating directly with clients and internal stakeholders when technical issues arise

What we're looking for

You'll bring at least four years of commercial software development experience, including recent hands-on responsibility for production websites or applications. You can work independently through unfamiliar codebases, diagnose issues across the stack and safely take a fix through testing and deployment.

Essential technical capability

  • PHP - strong commercial proficiency reading, debugging and modifying existing object-oriented PHP and delivering maintainable production fixes.

  • WordPress - strong hands-on experience with custom themes, plugins and integrations, including performance, compatibility and security issues.

  • MySQL and SQL - solid proficiency investigating data issues, writing and optimising queries, understanding schemas and making safe database changes.

  • JavaScript - solid working proficiency across frontend behaviour, browser debugging and integration code.

  • Git and CI/CD - confident day-to-day use of branching, pull requests and code review, plus practical experience with automated build, test and deployment pipelines.

  • cPanel, Plesk, FTP/SFTP, SSH and Linux CLI - confident operational use for troubleshooting websites and safely diagnosing server and production issues.

  • Claude or comparable AI-assisted development tools - effective use for investigation, coding, testing and documentation, with independent verification of outputs.

  • APIs, integrations and application security - solid experience with REST APIs, integration failures and secure development and maintenance practices.

  • Modern and legacy systems - familiarity with current practices for maintainable code, testing, security and delivery, combined with the pragmatism to understand and safely improve legacy work.

Experience that would be advantageous

· Commercial exposure to Astro, Laravel, Alpine.js or Vue.js.

· Experience supporting or deploying applications in AWS.

· Experience with monitoring, automated testing, or infrastructure automation.

You do not need to be an expert in every desirable technology. We are looking for strong fundamentals, depth in our essential stack and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly.

How you work matters

· You like taking ownership and seeing a problem through

· You want to understand why something broke, not just patch the symptom

· You work independently, know when to ask for help and communicate clearly with non-technical people

· You enjoy improving systems and using AI or automation to remove repetitive work

Why RAZOR

RAZOR is an AI-first digital product and technology company. We build new AI-enabled products, applications, automations and integrations while continuing to support the websites, platforms and systems our clients rely on every day.

You'll own the health and ongoing improvement of live systems across our client base in New Zealand, Australia and the USA. Working with our Auckland team and our presence in Austin, Texas, you'll solve varied real-world problems and help shape how our support and maintenance function operates as we scale.

Flexibility that actually matters

We offer genuine flexibility to work from home, balanced with being available to work with the Auckland team in person when it adds value. If you want less commuting and more autonomy without giving up interesting engineering problems, we'd like to hear from you.
