Spatial Design Intern

The Role
As a Spatial Design Intern, you will help design physical experiences that communicate ideas clearly in space. You will support our design team in translating content into spatial storytelling, learning how to guide visitor movement, interaction, and understanding.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist in Concept Development: Contribute to brainstorming and developing exhibition concepts based on project briefs, target audiences, and goals.

• Support Spatial Planning: Help the team translate narratives into spatial layouts, zoning plans, and visitor journeys.

• Create Visual Assets: Produce mood boards, concept sketches, and assist with 3D visuals and technical drawings.

• Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work alongside content, UX, and graphic design teams to see how storytelling aligns across different disciplines.

• Ideate Touchpoints: Help design interactive displays, engagement moments, and physical touchpoints within a space.

• Learn Best Practices: Apply principles of accessibility, clarity, and spatial flow under the guidance of senior designers.

• Vendor Coordination: Shadow the team during communications with fabricators and vendors to learn about build quality and material selection.

• Site Support: Accompany the team on site visits and assist with overseeing installations when required.

• Project Support: Help the team keep track of project timelines, design revisions, and production constraints.

Requirements

• Education: Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Spatial Design, Exhibition Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field.

• Portfolio: A student portfolio demonstrating spatial thinking, foundational design skills, and storytelling potential.

• Software Skills: Basic to intermediate proficiency in tools like SketchUp, Rhino, AutoCAD, and the Adobe Creative Suite.

• Willingness to Learn: Eagerness to understand the full design process, from initial concept through to production-ready outputs.

• Technical Interest: A basic understanding of (or strong desire to learn about) materials, fabrication, and physical build constraints.

• Soft Skills: Strong communication skills, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to take constructive feedback.
