Work Schedule: 5-day work week, 10:00 p.m. 7:00 a.m. Philippine time

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator to join our engineering team. In this role, you will oversee the health, performance, and integrity of our database infrastructure across on-premises and Azure environments. You will focus on developing and maintaining automated data quality and accuracy monitoring systems to ensure our data pipelines remain clean, consistent, and reliable at scale. You will also collaborate closely with developers and product managers to deliver dependable data solutions that support our customer-facing products.

What You Will Work On

Design and drive elegant solutions to complex backend and data architecture challenges.

Own data quality end-to-end — build automated validation pipelines, anomaly detection routines, and reconciliation processes that proactively surface data accuracy issues before they reach customers.

Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate monitoring, alerting, and remediation workflows across the data platform.

Evaluate tooling and technologies to shape the future of our data infrastructure — we value open-minded, forward-thinking approaches.

Leverage the full Azure ecosystem — including Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Automation Accounts — to streamline and modernize backend operations.

Collaborate with product managers and development teams to build and support new customer-facing features. Contribute to continuous improvement of backend data processes and database DevOps practices.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Database Administration

  • Manage and administer SQL Server databases across on-premises and Azure environments.

  • Configure, maintain, and optimize database servers and associated processes.

  • Monitor system health and performance; proactively identify and resolve issues in real time.

  • Ensure high levels of availability, performance, sustainability, and security across all database systems.

  • Execute scheduled maintenance and support after-hours release deployment activities as needed.

  • Partner with the Senior DBA to scope and close out database-related projects.

Data Quality & Accuracy Monitoring

  • Design and implement automated data validation frameworks to continuously verify accuracy, completeness, and consistency across databases and data pipelines.

  • Build alerting and reporting systems that flag data anomalies, unexpected nulls, referential integrity violations, or statistical drift in near real time.

  • Develop reconciliation routines that cross-check data between source systems, staging layers, and downstream consumers.

  • Create and maintain data quality dashboards and audit trails to support operational visibility and compliance requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering and data teams to define data quality SLAs and enforce them through automated controls.

Automation & Scripting

  • Automate recurring maintenance tasks, monitoring checks, and remediation workflows using PowerShell, Python, and SQL Agent jobs.

  • Refine and document automation scripts; maintain version control via Git.

  • Support database CI/CD pipelines and schema migration tooling in collaboration with DevOps.

Development Collaboration

  • Assist developers with query tuning, schema refinement, and resolution of concurrency (deadlock) issues.

  • Optimize stored procedures and functions in collaboration with the development team.

Requirements & Qualifications

Core Database Skills

  • Proven experience in a SQL Server DBA or equivalent role.

  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including Azure SQL Managed Instance.

  • Proficiency with SQL Server 2016+ (2019,2022 and/or 2025 strongly preferred).

  • Demonstrated expertise in Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO).

  • Solid knowledge of backup strategies, restore procedures, and recovery models.

  • Experience implementing High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) solutions for SQL Server.

  • Experience with SQL Server Data Replication and Clustering.

  • Familiarity with SQL Server CLR assemblies.

  • Experience administering Windows Server environments, including Active Directory.

Data Quality & Automation

  • Experience building or maintaining automated data validation, reconciliation, or data quality monitoring systems.

  • Proficiency in PowerShell scripting for database automation, alerting, and administrative workflows.

  • Working knowledge of Python for data quality scripting, pipeline automation, or ETL support.

  • Familiarity with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics workspaces, and alert rule configuration.

  • Understanding of data quality dimensions: accuracy, completeness, consistency, timeliness, and uniqueness.

Professional Skills

  • Strong sense of ownership with a commitment to quality and its impact on business outcomes.

  • Excellent analytical and critical problem-solving skills under pressure.

  • Collaborative team player with strong time-management and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with dbt (data build tool) or similar data transformation/testing frameworks.

  • Familiarity with Azure Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, or Microsoft Fabric for pipeline orchestration.

  • Experience with Great Expectations, Soda, or custom-built data quality frameworks.

  • Knowledge of database security features: Dynamic Data Masking, Always Encrypted, Transparent Data Encryption (TDE), and row-level security.

  • Experience with database CI/CD tooling such as Flyway, Liquibase, or Redgate.
