Senior Data Engineer (Scala / Spark)

Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join a high-impact project supporting Expedia. We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with strong experience in Scala, Apache Spark, and modern Data Engineering technologies to help design, develop, and support scalable enterprise data solutions.

The ideal candidate will contribute to the development of batch and streaming data pipelines, work with large-scale data platforms, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust and reliable data products.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in Data Engineering or related roles.
• Strong experience with Scala or Java development.
• Hands-on experience with Apache Spark.
• Experience designing and maintaining batch and streaming data pipelines.
• Experience working with Hive and/or Apache Iceberg.
• Experience with ETL/ELT processes and large-scale data environments.
• Experience supporting production systems and troubleshooting data pipeline issues.
• Advanced English communication skills.

Nice to Have

• Apache Airflow.
• Cassandra.
• Data Modeling experience.
• Experience with enterprise-scale data platforms.
• Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, or similar platforms.
• Experience with API-driven data architectures.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize scalable data pipelines.
• Build and maintain batch and real-time data processing solutions.
• Implement data transformations, validations, and integrations across multiple sources.
• Support data ingestion, enrichment, and delivery processes.
• Work with Hive and Iceberg-based data storage solutions.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and business stakeholders.
• Investigate and resolve production incidents related to data pipelines and data platforms.
• Participate in platform enhancements and strategic data initiatives.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and code quality.
