Senior Project Engineer – MV Switchgear
Job Summary
The Senior Project Engineer – MV Switchgear will be responsible for the end-to-end execution of Medium Voltage (MV) switchgear projects, ensuring compliance with technical specifications, project timelines, quality standards, and customer expectations. The role involves coordination with engineering, procurement, production, QA/QC, and clients/consultants to ensure successful project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Execution
- Manage the complete lifecycle of MV switchgear projects from order handover to final delivery.
- Review technical specifications, SLDs, GA drawings, protection schemes, and project documents.
- Prepare and monitor project schedules, milestones, and deliverables.
- Ensure projects are delivered within budget, timeline, and quality requirements.
2. Technical Coordination
- Review and approve engineering drawings, schematics, and technical submittals.
- Ensure compliance with IEC / IEEE / local utility standards.
- Coordinate with design, production, and testing teams for technical clarifications.
- Support value engineering and technical optimization where applicable.
3. Client & Consultant Interface
- Act as the technical point of contact for customers, consultants, and contractors.
- Participate in technical meetings, design reviews, and project progress meetings.
- Address technical queries, deviations, and approvals.
4. Procurement & Vendor Coordination
- Identify long-lead materials and critical components.
- Coordinate with procurement for MV breakers, relays, CTs, VTs, protection systems, and accessories.
- Review vendor documents and ensure compliance with project specifications.
5. Manufacturing & Testing Support
- Coordinate with factory teams for manufacturing, assembly, and FAT (Factory Acceptance Tests).
- Ensure compliance with type tests and routine tests for MV switchgear.
- Witness or coordinate customer FAT and inspections.
6. Quality & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with ISO standards, QA/QC procedures, and project documentation requirements.
- Address NCRs, punch lists, and technical issues.
7. Risk & Schedule Management
- Identify project risks and mitigation strategies.
- Track project progress, delays, and corrective actions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or Diploma in electrical engineering with
- 8–10 years of experience in MV switchgear / power distribution projects.
- Experience in project execution for utilities, industrial plants, data centers, or infrastructure projects.
Technical Skills
- Knowledge of MV switchgear (AIS/GIS), protection systems, and power distribution.
- Familiarity with IEC 62271 standards and protection schemes.
- Experience with protection relays, CT/VT selection, and interlocking schemes.
- Ability to review SLD, schematic diagrams, and GA drawings.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with EPC projects or turnkey power distribution projects.
- Familiarity with project management tools (Primavera, MS Project, Smartsheet.).
- PMP certification or equivalent is an advantage.
