Sr. UX Designer - UK

United Kingdom - Remote

About the Role

Impel is building the automotive industry’s first AI Operating System, and many of the experiences you’ll design have no existing pattern. You’ll work across the full platform from AI‑driven customer interactions to advisor workflows, configuration tools, and shopper merchandising while ensuring coherence across a connected journey that spans sales, service, and retention.

You’ll partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Data across the UK, US, and Tbilisi; run your own research with dealers and their staff; and establish patterns the broader design team will build on. You don’t need prior AI‑product experience, but you must be comfortable designing with AI tooling and advocating for the user when speed conflicts with quality.

Responsibilities

  • Own end‑to‑end design across multiple surfaces, from discovery through shipped experience and iteration.
  • Simplify complex dealership workflows into intuitive, learnable interfaces.
  • Conduct discovery and validation with dealers, advisors, BDC agents, and internal partners.
  • Extend and evolve Impel’s design system with scalable patterns and components.
  • Design to WCAG 2.2 AA as a baseline requirement.
  • Define success measures with Product/Data and evaluate impact using behavioral data and experimentation.
  • Prototype at appropriate fidelity from sketch to Figma to AI‑assisted or coded to resolve decisions with evidence.
  • Use AI tooling to accelerate synthesis, exploration, and prototyping.
  • Present work clearly and influence decisions without formal authority.
  • Raise the craft bar through critique and documentation.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years designing digital products in complex B2B, SaaS, or platform environments.
  • Portfolio showing end‑to‑end ownership of workflow‑heavy problems and clear decision rationale.
  • Ability to turn ambiguous problems into clear, defensible direction.
  • Advanced Figma skills across systems, prototyping, and handoff.
  • Practical fluency with modern AI tools.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility standards.
  • Comfort with qualitative and quantitative evidence.
  • Strong written communication, including interface copy.
  • Experience collaborating with distributed teams.

Bonus Points

  • Experience with AI/ML/agentic features or model limitations/feedback loops.
  • Conversational or voice interface design.
  • Automotive retail, dealership, marketplace, or e‑commerce experience.
  • Experience contributing to a design system at scale.
  • Ability to read front‑end code or build coded prototypes.
  • Experience designing for multiple user types and permission models.
