Staff Backend Software Engineer

The role

Raydar is recruiting for this role on behalf of our client. Lead the creation of core server-side systems for a high-volume messaging platform, taking work from initial concept through live operation. Work alongside a compact engineering group and take new product areas from nothing to launch.

What you'll do

- Take ownership of central backend systems covering routing, delivery and automation.

- Build and release dependable services that stay performant under very heavy traffic.

- Lead the creation of new product areas from the ground up, beyond individual features.

- Partner closely with a small group of engineers.

- Tackle demanding infrastructure challenges and shorten the path from concept to production.

Requirements

What we're looking for

- Around 6 or more years of engineering experience, including recent time at a high-growth technology startup.

- A record of quick career progression to staff, lead or founding level; long tenure at senior level is acceptable.

- Experience building complete products from 0 to 1.

- Professional experience with Node.js and TypeScript.

- Experience with queue-based infrastructure such as AWS SQS.

- Ability to drive technical projects from start to finish with little oversight.

- Skill at explaining complex technical ideas in plain language.

- A collaborative, team-oriented working style.

- A technical undergraduate degree earned in the US.

Bonus points

- Experience as a founding engineer, co-founder or early engineering hire at a startup.

- Frontend development experience.

- Base salary: USD 225,000 to 300,000 per year
