Staff Engineer - Identity & Access Management (IAM) Sydney

We're partnering with a leading Australian financial services organisation seeking an accomplished Staff Software Engineer to help shape its next generation of customer identity, authentication and API platforms.
This is a highly technical, hands-on engineering position, offering the opportunity to influence architecture, solve complex engineering challenges and establish engineering standards across business-critical platforms.

The opportunity

• Design and develop scalable, secure, high-performance identity and authentication services.
• Lead technical architecture across APIs, microservices and distributed systems.
• Build and enhance customer identity, access management and API integration platforms.
• Drive engineering excellence across code quality, testing, reliability and automation.
• Mentor senior engineers and influence technical direction across multiple teams.
• Work closely with engineering, platform, security and product stakeholders.

What we're looking for

• A strong background in hands-on software engineering is essential.
• Significant experience developing production applications, APIs or distributed systems.
• Strong programming capability, ideally Java, Spring Boot or similar backend technologies.
• Experience with cloud platforms, microservices, CI/CD and modern engineering practices.
• Understanding of authentication, authorisation, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect or API security.
• Experience designing and supporting highly available, business-critical platforms.
• Ability to influence technical decisions and mentor engineers.

Previous experience in banking, financial services or large-scale digital platforms would be advantageous.

Important: This is a software engineering leadership position, not a traditional IAM administration or security governance role.
