The Role
We’re looking for a Staff Product Designer to join our small but mighty design team. You’ll work closely with the Arena Product team to build and grow the Gray Swan AI Arena. From collaborating with developers and marketing teams to translating complex technical workflows into clear, trustworthy, and refined product experiences, you’ll help shape how AI systems are tested, monitored, and secured.
This is a high ownership role. We care deeply about craft, but just as much about initiative. We’re looking for someone who can take a problem, run with it, collaborate cross functionally, and push the work to a high standard without waiting to be told what to do.
What You’ll Do:
Design and improve Gray Swan’s Arena UI across web and mobile platforms
Own your work from end-to-end, from early concept sketches to production-ready specs
Translate complex technical workflows into clear, and intuitive user experiences.
Incorporate visual design and persuasive design principles to create joyful and engaging flows.
Build and maintain UI components, patterns, and visual standards in our design system
Collaborate with product, engineering, ML research, and GTM teams on cross-functional work
Contribute to ad hoc design needs as they arise: we all wear a few extra hats here!
Who You Are:
6+ years’ professional experience in product UI/UX design, ideally in gamified consumer apps, bonus points for experience building tooling and/or chat interfaces
Able to balance the need of technical users with creating playful design
Proficient in modern design and prototyping tools
Solid grasp on user-centered design principles and usability testing methodologies
Detail-oriented with a knack for managing style guides and component libraries
Bonus Points If You Have:
Experience working at an early-stage startup
Understanding of AI safety principles or ethical considerations in AI systems
Some familiarity with front-end development or coding skills
If you don’t have 100% of these, you should still seriously consider applying. We care more about what you can do than your credentials.
You’ll Thrive Here If You:
Enjoy high-impact work. Your role will directly shape the experience of our early customers and set the tone for future growth
Embrace a collaborative, mission-focused team. You’ll work alongside passionate engineers, product leaders, and a supportive UX Lead
Lead with purpose: As we scale, you'll help formalize our design processes and co-lead design initiatives
What We Offer:
We offer a competitive compensation package designed to reward impact and incentivize growth. Our compensation philosophy is informed by our current valuation and recent industry data.
Compensation: $205,000-$255,000 plus performance based bonus and meaningful equity package
Benefits:
401k with up to 4% matching
28 days annual leave (vacation + holidays)
Health, dental, and vision coverage
Catered lunches (Pittsburgh office)
Flexible work arrangements
Visa sponsorship available for exceptional candidates
