Summary
A Store Warehouse Stock Clerk at KTA Super Stores receives, counts, and stores incoming merchandise from vendors, enforces back door security, processes invoices, and assists with periodic inventory counts. The role requires physical work in outdoor and warehouse conditions on the Big Island of Hawaii.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY
The primary responsibility of a Store Warehouse Stock Clerk is to receive, verify, and store merchandise brought in by various vendors and transportation services, to ensure accurate billing and payment of merchandise. A Store Warehouse Stock Clerk also provides back door security to protect company assets.
JOB DESCRIPTION
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
You MUST perform the following duties regularly and up to company standards:
- Accurately receive and count incoming merchandise, physically counting and matching it with invoices.
- Scan invoices into the computer and input verification of merchandise counted.
- Log invoices in the computer system and distribute it to department supervisors.
- Write up credit claims, damages, overages, and shortages.
- Store merchandise in warehouse.
- Assist the store with setting up the warehouse for periodic (monthly, quarterly, etc.) inventory.
- Enforce all receiving and security procedures with associates and vendors (salespersons/delivery/merchandisers), to monitor merchandise entering and exiting the receiving door area.
NON-ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
In order to provide the best possible service to our customers, the following duties are also required on an as-needed basis, during slow periods, or upon instruction by a supervisor, manager or designated person-in-charge.
- Break down merchandise from Central Warehouse and various vendors.
- Rearrange items in warehouse to make additional space. Rotate items according to shelf dates.
- Scan all damaged and unsalable merchandise. Reduce damaged items for sale.
- Maintain a clean warehouse and receiving area.
- Sweep, remove debris, pallets, etc. and discard trash daily.
- Secure doors, gates, and perimeter areas (docks, receiving area, etc.).
- Service stock wagons as needed.
- Take quarterly inventory.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPECTATIONS
All associates are required to provide our customers with “World Class Service” with a local touch.
- GREET all customers (be friendly, smile and make face-to-face eye contact).
- HELP all customers (listen and pay attention; be courteous; be knowledgeable about product location, services offered and store hours; offer alternatives if a product is out of stock; take the customer to the product, etc.).
- Personalize the customer’s shopping experience (make small talk, offer meal suggestions, explain current store promotions, etc.).
- THANK all customers (show appreciation and offer a parting comment).
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequently work outdoors where it is noisy, hot, humid and sometimes raining, to receive, break down, and load up merchandise.
- Occasionally work in a warehouse where it is hot and dusty to store, count, and retrieve merchandise.
WORK HOURS
- Generally be available for work 7 days a week and holidays between 6:00 1m and 4:00 pm
EQUIPMENT USE
- Frequently use a computer, scanner, printer, baler, freight elevator, hand truck, stock wagon, and stapler to perform all job duties; Telxon and Janin Units to receive merchandise.
- Occasionally use a broom, dustpan, telephone, and calculator.
- Seldom use a ladder and case cutter.
SAFETY EQUIPMENT
- Continuously wear a back support belt when performing all job duties.
MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS
- MENTAL – Continuously need to concentrate well and be alert to follow security procedures; use mathematical abilities to count merchandise. Frequently need to pay attention to detail to verify merchandise count and perform cleaning duties; stand firm and say “no”, in order to enforce safety, security and other company procedures.
- PHYSICAL – Continuously need to stand, walk, handle and use corrected vision when performing all job duties. Frequently need to bend, squat, kneel, crouch and reach, to handle, stock, and retrieve merchandise from shelves; push up to 300 lbs. on hand truck to transport merchandise; lift up to 50 lbs. to stock and retrieve cases of merchandise; carry up to 30 lbs. to retrieve and stock various cases of merchandise. Occasionally need to push up to 600 lbs. to stock and store merchandise; climb and reach to replace light bulbs.
- COMMUNICATION – Continuously need to listen, talk to, and understand vendors, supervisors and co-workers when doing all job duties; read invoices, invoice log, and product cases when receiving, verifying and storing merchandise. Frequently talk on the telephone and PA system to answer incoming calls, call maintenance companies, and transfer calls to another department; meet vendor’s occasional requests to make room in warehouse to store more merchandise. Occasionally need to write to take messages for co-workers; listen, understand and talk to customers and assist them with their requests.
